I need better brakes on my 80 buggy. I'm running 95 axles and 41.5 tires. What are you guys doing to help your junk stop better?

If you haven’t already I would ditch the LSPV.

Other than that I’d look into the following:
-baseline the brakes
-consider hydroboost

No abs or lspv. The brakes are about as baselined as you can get. On 38s my brakes were great. As soon as I went to the 41s the brakes suffered and I understand that. But they are no where near where they should be

What’s your crawl ratio? I was at 130.1 and hardly needed brakes? Maybe your talking about highway braking?

I put hydroboost on my 40 that has 80 series axles under it and 37 HMMWV tires. I can lock up the tires now but it is probably going to wear brakes faster.
Compare that to my daily driver 80 with 285/75R16 which I can't lock up unless on ice...

Did you go with the busted knuckle kit?

I found their webpage. I used hydroboost out of an older Chevy Astro Van coupled to a stock 80 series master. I had to make an adapter and bits so it was a fair amount of work.

Hydroobost

Hydroboost will give you more system pressure by pressing harder on the master. After that, i think there were some guys developing big brake kits for the 80, maybe it was the columbian cruiser restoring company?

My only issue with going hydro boost is I don't know if my power steering pump can handle hydro boost and hydro assist. Thankfully it is a 3de so I could probably modify something and make it work

If you have a 3FE a good Saginaw pump is easy

I never see people do this on mud, so I'll suggest it here. Why not get a set of brake pads made that are more aggressive? G-Loc will make just about anything. I even put race pads on our Dodge Dart at work.

I'm convinced, because I use special brake pads when I take my mustang on race tracks. My track pads damned near put me through the windshield. Night and day.
