I need to get my GPS up to date. What's the best way? Thanks

Buy an outboard, stand alone GPS (I like Garmin) and experience features that the stock GPS unit can never duplicate - and enjoy FREE map updates for life!

I know not the answer you're looking for, but honestly, after going through the absolutely stupid procedure of having to purchase an upgrade certificate, then have the dealer purchase a specific "dongle" from Toyota to allow my 2013 Nav to be updated, then paying over $200 dollars to have my dealer perform the update, and finally to see no perceivable difference in the performance or maps on my unit - a stand alone GPS from Garmin is a real joy.

@gaijin can you post up some pics and part numbers of your navigation mounting solution? thanks!

I'd look at some of the headunit adapters and hook your phone up for android auto/carplay. Much better experience.

That said, if I use my iphone how can I get the verbal directions to play through the LC system?

That's assuming the phone is connected by Bluetooth to the truck. Also, you would need to use your phone as the audio source for the stereo. As in you'd need to be streaming/playing from stored memory music from the phone. The audio source on the infotainment system needs to be set to Bluetooth, so you wouldn't be able to listen to the radio/sirius/cd. Also, as a side note, I assume on the newer trucks you don't have to connect the phone twice. On my 2010 LX, which was first year for Bluetooth audio (as opposed to just phone use previously), you have to connect the phone to the infotainment system twice. Once in the phone settings and once in the audio settings. If I didn't connect the audio settings portion, I would not get audio from Google/Apple Maps.
