Looking for discussion on tires, size 15 inch rims.
Presently running 36" TSL's. Great for off road, suck for getting to the trail.
Considering BFG KM2 vs Goodyear MT/R kevler.
Please voice!
BTW- SOA front/4 link rear.

My favorites - Toyo M/Ts

I have the BFG KM2's on my 4runner and I love those tires. They have performed very nice on pavement, dirt, mud, rocks, and snow. I have not had them in the sand so I can't comment on that.

Might want to check out Nitto tires. I have the Trail Grapplers (more aggressive than the Terra Grapplers) on my jeep and I think they are great on and off the road. Smooth at 65 mph on the interstates in and around Atlanta on my way to and from work. Terra Grapplers are supposed to be a little more road friendly but may not work for you offroad.

I have had Toyo MTs and loved them, Cooper MTs not as good as Toyo. BFG Ko's (old style) Nitro Grapplers ( Several sidewalls damaged)

When I recently got new tires for my 100 series I was on my second set of MTs. A good AT tire will do just as good for where I wheel. Moab, Colorado, South Dakota etc. I debated between the Toyo ATII and the new BFG AT KO2, both new designs. Both would have been good choices. I went with the Toyo because it had the best sidewall on tires I had owned and it wheeled great in Moab, di better than the MTs in the snow and ice, is quieter and will last twice as long.

Have a set of BFG AT KOs on my 40 and likely will go to either the new KO2 or the Toyos. Really happy with the Toyos but I know lots of people happy with the BFGs

Need to look at how you are planning on using them. For on road, an AT is much better than an MT

For Off road, it depends on the terrain and how much you plan on wheeling. If you will spend a lot of time in mud, then an MT would be better

Thanks everyone.
I just picked some BFG KM2 for my 06 Tundra and really like them.
Still not sure for the 78 FJ40 SOA front /4 Link rear.
I will go with 35's, just not sure which manufact yet.

BTW- any comments on Goodyear MT/R

I have run both the Toyo and BFG M/T's on my trucks. The Toyo M/T's are very sturdy, really strong sidewalls and long tread life, but noisy and heavy. The sidewalls are stiff enough (I had E-rated tires) that you have to air them way down to get them to soften on the trail.

The BFG KM2 M/T's that I still have on my 40 are good on and off road, not as noisy as the Toyos (I think, but the BFG are on my 40 so maybe not an apples to apples comparison), and soften really well at moderate PSI. Good traction off-road.

Honestly, I think the BFG KM2 are a better all-round compromise for everything you might throw at them, but if I was mostly going to be on the rocks and in the desert I would choose the Toyos for their strength.

HTH.

Problem with the BFG's is they run really small. 35" is more like a 33 if I recall. TSL has some friendlier highway tires available. Don't get the SSRs, I didn't really like em. A lot of people do fine with the kevlars, but Im not a big fan of directionals. I have the BFG blue label krawlers, they are a great tire I think and run true to size. The tread depth is much deeper too than the mud terrains.
