First off, not all cryo treating is equal with regards to quality of the work.

Cryo treating "aligns" the carbon atoms in the molecular microstructure. This allows the metal to react to things like heating and cooling and stress in a much more uniform manner. An axle shaft for example will have greater strength and wear properties. Another benefit of this process is the carbon molecules will conduct electricty better.

The cost for a treated OEM boxed plug is $10. Most other items are based on the weight of the item.

I first heard of this process about 15 years ago in relation to modern manufacture vacuum tubes used in guitar amps, which supposedly makes them more durable and sound better , but since I never saw a truly independent study done I figured it was either BS or wishful thinking.
Now I see that Cryo has made it's way to the automotive aftermarket. Are there any studies not done by, or paid for by the Cryo people?

While on the subject of FZJ80 spark plugs, just want to mention that I have been using Denso Iridium SK16PR-F8 for the past 5yrs & getting good life out of them. Recently I switched to OEM Denso K16R-U (90919-01176) to see if any performance changes beside the cost.
Scan gauge II is now indicating hotter engine temp(12 deg F higher) under same load, fuel type environmental/ambient conditions. Huge difference in spark plugs cost $75 vs $22 OEM.
Any idea why this could be?

Aside from their cost, longer life expectancy, lower fouling & corrosion. I have also seen slightly better mpg using scan gauge II (maybe due to better spark patterns). Easy to clean & reuse as long as the electrodes are not overly fouled or damaged & the gaps are good. Make sure you check Denso website for your vehicle spark plug compatibility.
