Best on road ride AT tires

Ok, I have down selected to a Toyo OC AT.
I am eyeing the 295/75/16 but this power loss has me questioning whether I should go with the 285/75/16 instead. There is only a 3.6lb difference between the two tire sizes. Also, there seems to be differing experiences to whether a 295 tire rubs.

Thoughts?

I just love tire talk.

When i was looking at 285 vs 295 BFG AT's the two were somehow the same weight. Sidewall thickness maybe?

From what I've read on here, most 295/75/16s fit without rubbing but the aggressive sidewall tread on MT tires or anything wider rubs.

I'm in the same boat, looking for good on road 285 AT tires. What do you think is better overall Toyo OC AT or Nitto Terra Grapplers? I think their about the same price with free shipping on Amazon and are part of the same company.

Check out tirecrawler.com. Prices are the best I have found so far.

I like the Toyo over the Nitto. Very similar look tread pattern between the two, but the Toyo seems like the premium tire over the Nitto.

Toyo is also offering a 40k mileage warranty. Didn't see that from Nitto.

Oh yeah, if you are looking for a Toyo MT- tirecrawler.com is running an awesome sale.

Shipping is usually what kills the price advantage of tire websites. Amazon's tires seem like a good deal because there is now tax in CA (at least until next Sept) and if you have a free student or an $79/year Amazon Prime membership you can ship them 2nd day air for free. 240lbs worth of tires shipped for free...

both worlds

The Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor's have a great road ride and are quite capable off road. I have had them on a few vehicles including my 2003 LC w/ 275/70/18. Happy shopping!

I've had good luck with the GY Silent Armor's also in 255/70r18. Quiet and predictable on road, handles field and farm just fine (wet vegetation, light mud, stream crossings/ditches, up hill/down dale), and was awesome in last year's 'snowmaggedon' in DC.

No interest in deep mud or hard core rock bashing so i can't speak to how they are there.

Anymore feedback on the Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor?

Looking for near stock sized 18" tires they have two great options for me. 265/65 and 255/65.

Would love to see more feedback. Especially about highway manners, snow/ice tracktion, and tread life.

DiscountTiresDirect has great pricing and free shipping....I bought my Trail Grapplers and were cheaper than anyone around town. Then paid Tire Kingdom to mount and balance for me.

FourWheeler Magazine this month has a nice feature on tires and the GY Silent Armor rated very well, it actually swayed my decision from the some of the above mentioned to consider it as my next tire.

I got pirelli scorpion 275/65/18.
They came with the truck which I bought only 3 weeks ago. So far I like them on the highway and such. Haven't taken them off road yet. Anyone had these before?
I'm also curious about the Mickey Thompson a/t...thanks

There are widely varying perspectives on this topic, my loud-tire-experience is anothers dream-tire. I have had BFG AT KO's and Nitto Terra Grapplers and thought them both to be really loud on the road. Michelin's have been very nice on the road. My favorite is still the Firestone Destination A/T. Little to no road noise, and was everything I needed it to be on my recent off-roading excursion (albeit light-weight and central Indiana). Wet and snow performance were my initial reasons for purchasing for my gen3 4Runner and they worked then, and just as well on my '02 LC. Probably one of the lesser expensive options to boot. Still #1 on the tirerack survey. Tough decision - good luck.

Hey Indy,

Can u post some pics of the Destination at's?

TIA

Destination A/T's

These are P275/60r20's. My previous set were LT265/70r17 on FJC rims on a '99 4Runner. They did not look as wide as some tires of the same size due to their smoother edge blocking. Other than that, they are easy to keep balanced and overall great tires.

Looks good Indy, thanks for the pics

Umm, , correct me if i'm wrong but are'nt those the tires that made explorers barrell roll during the 90's ?:)

Does anyone know why Tirerack and the BFGoodrich site claim that most sizes that we would put on our LC are not rated for severe snow? It's strange because it's just some sizes, some are D, others E it makes no sense. Do different sizes have different tread patterns? Are they coming from different plants that have different materials?

NOTE: While most BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO tires meet the industry's severe snow service requirements (and are branded with the mountain/snowflake symbol), selected tires do not. Specific tires/sizes not meeting the industry's severe snow service requirements are identified with a "Not Rated For Severe Snow" notation on the Sizes & Pricing, as well as on Specs.
