Looking to get a canvas tent. Need 1 that sleeps 3 people w/plenty of room. Would prefer 1 w/a divider, or room, but haven't seen a canvas 1 that has 'dividers'. I don't mind spending the money(up to $700) but I want the most for my money. Don't really need 1 that has a wood heater. Thanks!

For a ground tent, Springbar. The 10x10 will sleep three, but no divider. Kodiak is a knockoff with very similar specs as Springbar for less money. IMHO, there are reasons why it's less expensive, but I won't start a debate on it. Buddy has the 10x14. It's the size of a small condo! BTW - used to own the Springbar and it's truely a great tent in ANY weather. Only sold it to fund my Eezi-Awn Globetrotter for my trailer.

Besides being made in China, what makes the Springbar superior? They have the same thickness walls and ceiling but the Kodiak has a twice as thick floor. The Kodiak comes with 1 more door, more windows, more interior hooks and pockets, larger patio cover and better storage bag. I'm trying to figure out how the Springbar is better.

I have the kodiak 10x14, I bought the vx with the extra windows. It is great, the best bang for the buck. I camp in Oklahoma and Louisiana, so air flow is important.

No arguement with anything you've stated. Made in USA if you want to support that notion is one thing. Second is the stake hooks. Springbar is much stronger than Kodiak, much stronger. This type of tent gets its structure from the stakes in the ground, not the poles, so not an area to skimp IMHO. There are 16 stakes around the 10x10, so plenty of support. Ground tarp more than solves the thickness issue on the floor, not that the Springbar is weak by any means as is.

I do like the front and back doors offered by Kodiak, but on the 10x10 Springbar, door and window up front and two windows in the back = plenty of cross ventilation.

Bottom line - they are both very well made tents and if the main objective is to save some coin - buy a Kodiak, it's a good tent. I chose to support a US mfg/supplier.

Good info. Thanks! I buy American when I can get a quality product for a relative price. But there are times when(like buying a Toyota) where the quality/cost can't be matched by an American product. I really, really dislike buying anything from China but it appears as long as QC is being watched very closely some products can be of quality. I can save $300 by getting the Kodiak for the same floorplan/options as the Springbar. Seems to be a no-brainer. Besides the Kodiak-Springbar evaluation, is there another co. out there that has the quality/price ratio as them? Thanks.

I ended up buying the Kodiak Canvas model 6014 on ebay(seller is comptetitiveedgeproducts) for $550 w/free shipping(regular price is $619+shipping). Comparable Springbar would've been over $800 delivered so I feel, as of now, I made the wiser choice. Can't wait to try this beast out!!! I'll post back w/my review.

Post up some pics and review when you get it (make sure you season it according to the instructions). The wife and I are looking at getting the 10x14 as well for us and the dogs. We are waiting at the moment because my dad still has their old canvas tent from when they lived in Australia and we went camping in when we were kids (late 70s early 80s). If it is in decent enough shape I will take that because I remember that it fit a family of 5 just fine (e.g. it was GINORMOUS). If it is too fargone to be salvageable then we will go with the Kodiak simply because the brand is sold by Sportsman's Warehouse and we have one here in town.

One more here for pics and a review when you get it in. It gets old crawling into a tent when camping for 3 or more days. Been thinking about canvas tents now when camping with the family.

It should be here Friday. I'll set it up Saturday to season it & check it out! If you want there's a couple good videos on youtube. Just type in the search "Kodiak Canvas 6014".

I set up the new tent yesterday. It's a Kodiak Canvas 6014 10x14'. I really like this tent. Took me about 15-20 to set up but will less time next time now that I know what doing. It's bigger than I thought it'd be but that's a good thing. I didn't realize the importance of the stake placement till I'd had it all up. If I put them in the proper places then there wouldn't be any 'wrinkles' & the walls would've been more taught. My daughter & I slept in it & she loves it so as far as I'm concerned I succeeded! I thought the bag was made of plastic but it's the same material as the tent. It's not a normal tent bag. You actually fold the tent up then put the bag on top of the folded tent, flip it over & use buckled straps so it fits easily. The bottom of the tent is super thick. I also received from the company I ordered from, for free, a nice Kodiak Canvas tarp to go under it that's made specifically for the exact tent(I highly recommend ordering from competitiveedgeoutdoors.com). Stakes are the beefiest factory tent stakes I've ever seen. I got in the pic for size reference(I'm 5'9"). Hope this helps y'all out in some way. Thanks.

That's awesome... Sportman's Warehouse just opened in town so I may see if they will pricematch the competitiveedge price.

I do love my Kodiak tent. I had my tent setup in half the time my buddy took putting up his small nylon tent.

I think Springbar and Kodiak Canvas both make good products. I think Springbar is good if you want to purchase a product made in the United States. The Kodiak Canvas Flex Bow Tents may give you a bigger bang for your buck and may have some slight advantages / improvements over the Springbar on some of their models.

Question... Where do you send the Kodiak for repairs. I know Springbar has their shop in Utah and will fix anything that breaks or tears.
