I know a few people that have had failures with their blue and yellow tops within a couple years of ownership. I wouldn't touch an optima. From what I hear the red's aren't as bad but I still would search elsewhere for batteries.

I've had good luck with oddysey batteries, ran them in my taco. In the 80 I'm using two lifeline group 27 deep cycles. They fit nicely. So far I haven't heard of any difficulties with these batteries.

Deka batteries are great as well, can be had from adventure trailers.

Great...

Now I am all paranoid.

:flipoff2:

Search in other posts for our experience with the yellow tops, but to give you a short resume: in our country the Optima oficial representant went bankrupcy courtesy of the several hundreds he sold which give up before their warranty end, he was unable to honor them because the new ones he had for replacement died before even leaving his warehouse :bang:

I imported about 20 for resale and all died before reaching the 2nd year with the notable exception of one of the three I had in my cruiser ( it is about 5 years old).

So at least on my behalf I can't say anything good about them.

Battery 1 / Main - Optima red - going past 4 years use, previous red lasted more than 5 years.
Battery 2 / House - Optima yellow - going on 3 years (replaced a std lead acid no name)

So far no problems, always reliable, but dang-it, now I'm gonna be watchin.

As I mentioned, there are a few (out here where it's really hot) that seem to get more than 2 years out of them, but most don't and when they do fail, they fail suddenly and hard.

Most will require modifications, either with the mounting or the wiring. I'd imagine the best bet for the 80, as far as ease of installation would be the 1500mjt

Oddysey's have the ability to function as a deep cycle and/or a starting battery.

Yes, Odyssey's are deep cycle and starting batteries, as are the Optima yellow tops and the blue tops gray case (can't remember if it's the light gray or dark gray case. One's a deep cycle/starting, the other is not a deep cycle. The red top isn't either. )
It's just that the Optima's aren't anywhere close to the battery that the Odyssey's are.

Remember that the Odysseys can be had with the post either way, that is + on left - on right or the other way around.

The Oddessy line is very nice in that they give you many options on config and size.

Well I know different models have the post on different sides like shown here...

Odyssey PC1500

Odyssey PC1700

But you can't pick a model and choose which post you want where.

*edit*

Okay, curiousity got the best of me. I called them direct. On the 925 and the 1200 you can choose how you want your terminals. The other models are as is. So if you want a particular size, you can't pick your posts.

Sure you can, on most, if not all of them.
Wish y'all would take a few moments to reseach a bit before you post wrong information.

For instance:
- PC1200T has RH+
- PC1200LT has LH+
- PC1700T has RH+
- PC1700LT has LH+

and so on.

[EDIT],
Ok, I posted before your edit, however whoever you talked to is still wrong.
See my post, besides the 925 and 1200, the 1700 is also available posted either way.
I'd bet that other ones are also.

But which one is the biggest with the higher capacity that will fit the 80 ?

I am too lazy to go down to my building parking lot to measure the battery tray !!!!!

Looks I need to break a oversize piggybank to fit a couple of this $305 each 2150 monsters on my 80 and throw away my two aged deep cycle batteries !!!!
