well that sucks!

I think your rig has stage fright. once we put the new dizzy cap on there it seemed to run just fine. and I did drive it some after the trans rebuild.

Ouch

That really sucks Walker, maybe Georg could hook you up with a newer Vortec?:frown:

Georg I swapped my plugs out the other day and the #4 cylinder wasn't firing since it was all the way fouled and covered in motor oil. once I replaced it, instead of slowly losing oil im now burning it and smoking like a diesel. it runs super smooth with the new dizzy, ICM and ignition coil plus new plug wires but I cant go more than a day without topping off the oil. im gonna put the fould plug back in so im not burning oil for the time being since I need it for work then pay someone up here to do an exhaust valve gasket rebuild.

it sucks but I still love my truck :)

Viper, in the future ill swap to something with more HP and newer but for now I gotta deal with smog since its regged with the smallblock and im not yet reg-ed in a smog free county

some pics to dump, Bambi, you can see my bumper sorta in the first pic :p

my new look for a few days as I fixed some stuff and kept bangin my head on the hood.

do a valve job/vale guide seals and you'll be good to go. I know it's a bunch of work but it's not difficult, just "busy work".

any reccomendations on where I can get a walk through for that? and approx. time frame involved? thanks for the info, ill start researching. I have a Haynes manual just need to get it all done before Saturday at 5 since I start work 30 miles away

are you up borth right now?!
1) find a reputable cylinder head shop.
2) yank the heads off and get them to the shop asap.
3) while the heads are being worked on, clean up the top of the block and the intake manifold. get all your prep-work done.
4) the heads shouldn't take long so don't mess around!
5) get a set of felpro intake gaskets and see which gaskets the head-shop recommends for the heads. get some engine oil, a filter and coolant as well as the proper thread sealer for the head bolts.
6) go get the heads and attack!
7) turn key, go fishing.
8) come home. quik shower. off to work.

done!

yep im up north, haven't started anything yet as I needed the truck to get to my finals this week. i do not believe i need to do a head rebuild as im not loosing coolant or getting coolant in my oil. its all blue smoke.

should the valve stem seal replacement be the only issue or is it the intake/exhaust valve gasket gone too? im loosing a lot of oil to the point where i was filling up a quart a day almost on highway speeds, which will be my commute to work

i got a job up here so im not moving back home for summer and thumbsup on the fishing haha

lol that rear bumpers looking really good now

do a compression test. if you have time, do all 8 cylinders. if not, then at least do 2,4,6 and 8. that'll give you a decent average. as long as #4 is close to the rest you should be ok.
if you're going to pull one head, then you might as well pull both.
if it's just a valve guide seal, then you might get lucky and be able to fix it without having to tear the heads off. some shops have the proper tools to do it by just pulling the valve cover.

back to my previous reply.....

take the cruiser to them so they can see what's up.

i got plenty of flies for you to use and i can put you on fish, back casting might be a different story though haha i got a couple spots my roommate and i are fishing with big fish and some really light 4x4 trails and little to no walking. just let me know a few weeks before and im more than happy to accomadate more people and rigs if you want if i can get the time off from work. i can also guide to hike in 2+ day trips if you want.

i cant accept money since im not yet licensed for that. for free is no problem

we'll have to set something up for sure. i'll bring my son, my 100-series and some cruiser parts to bribe you with!

hmmmmm im lookin to mount my hi-lift on the hood for summer and move it from the rack and don't want to put holes in the nicer hood... :hillbilly: I also accept other interior misc trim pieces like grab handles but that's after I get my other stuff finished up with the engine.

If you go around asking people if they know of a good "Head Shop", be sure to make sure they are talking about cars.....

...would make for a hell of a surprise!

Haha, I'm no hippie!, but there are plenty of em' where I live.

Not really anything worthy of an update, my 60 has pretty much just been sitting in the driveway since I came back from that trip two weeks ago. I still need to figure out when I can get it to my mechanic to figure out some issues, but I just cant seem to get any time during the work week to bring it to him.

I'm trying out a new mechanic this time, I'm sick of my last one's get in, get out mentality. The new guy was a friend of the previous owner (who was a BMW Master Tech i think), and he specializes in 4x4's. We'll see how it goes...

It might be wise to bite the bullet on this one, and have the heads rebuilt. Its going to hurt in the wallet, but its better than having parts keep wearing out withing the next few months/years and having to constantly repair it. Constant repairs will nickel and dime you to death.

That's my thought anyway.
