Balljoint puller, which one, cheap pitman puller, part number?

OK folks, I need to do my CV's, which puller have you all used on the balljoints?(CHEAP CHEAP)
Make, model, part number & price if possible, also any comments, does it pull the steering tie rod as well?

I rented a ball joint / tie rod end puller set from Checker Autoparts and found that the one of the pullers worked pretty well - it's the adjustable puller in the picture in this link:

It has the long arms, adjustable width, and end 'cap' that fits over the ball joint end so it doesn't fall off.

Not sure if you can buy it separately from the kit.
The other two fixed pullers in the kit do NOT work.

I think you mean knuckle puller correct...as in steering knuckle...correct? I have one like this that I got from Tool King. It works fairly well although mine is a little too large for the upper joint. Regardless of which one you get/use after you get a boat load of torque on the puller's bolt then whack the puller bolt with a large hammer to make quicker work of getting the knuckle separated.

Warren, I tried one like your e-bay special but didn't have any luck with it working properly and/or effectively. The style I use is yes $90 but about 1/3 the cost eek of the Toyota SST but is very similar in design and dimensions.

Some mechanics have been able to smack the knuckle (don't smack the actual knuckle/joint threads of course but mount the nut first so that the nut takes the brunt of the damage...) loose with just a hammer; that method hasn't worked for me without using the tool.

I just replaced my boots last week. I was able to get both ball joints and the steering/tie rod end loose with a rental pitman arm puller. I didnt take any pics, but here is my write up, might be helpful.

When I replaced my boots I didn't have to remove the balljoints. I just disarticulated everything enough that I could press down on the lower control arm to gain enough clearance to pull the axle.

I did mine last week as well - I used a BFH - big f***** hammer - just be careful not to hit the ball joint threads. Worked like a charm and zero dollars. Took about 3 - 4 minutes of hitting before it popped loose - but worked great.
