Thanksgiving 2024 I sold my 100 series and started looking for a good replacement family hauler. We were torn between a Sequoia or a 200 series for quite a while, and decided the smaller vehicle with more creature comforts was the best . Two days ago I grabbed this 2011 LX with 81k miles from a local dealer. It was a 1 owner vehicle that never left Orange County, CA. Pretty extensive records at Lexus of Tustin. Plan here is first get some maintenance items done, and then move onto some mods. Big thanks to @Boston Mangler for letting me check out his LC and giving me some advice on what to look for in these. I have always been a FJ40/4runner guy and this is my first Lexus product. So far I am really impressed, it's a pleasure to drive, and even for a 2011 has a lot of features we enjoy.

First order of business looks to be the radiator. Thanks to post here on Mud I was able to go out and check that I have the older variant of radiator and I have a hairline crack forming. I'll get one ordered and just do the hoses and heater T's at the same time as well. Kinda funny these were the first two things I did on my 100 as well back in 2016.

congrats

hopefully you will be a good samaritan now
I work on it every day lol.... I'd like to think I'm a decent human most of the time. I had gotten that nickname from a funny incident in college with one of my roommates.

Woohoo!

Congrats

I have a rough plan going so far for LX after looking around at the vehicle some more today. All 4 tires have different DOT Date Codes and 1 is from 2018. The spare looks original from 2011 lol. I'm really not a fan of 20" wheels so I may splurge and change wheels/tires now. Thinking Method 703's in 17x8.5/ET35 and a 275/85r17 but still looking around. Convoy has one that I like as well. Kind of insane what Rock Warriors and the Toyota HE wheels are going for these days.

Maintenance:
Continue fluids check
Check lube points
Radiator, hoses, heater T's on order
New floor mats and cargo mats on order.

17s are a great choice in terms of tire size. Lots of people run Methods, I prefer to avoid them and would rather stick OEM. Lots of 18” options form 2nd gen tundra and sequioa, TRD OR and PRO wheels are a great choice for a decent price.

I second this.

I’d avoid methods and try to find an OEM variant you’d like if possible. Wheels are not a component I’d save $ on and compromise quality

I’ve seen the HE BBS wheels (black variant) locally on Craigslist, somewhat often around the $1500 range for a set. Which isn’t too
Horrible when you add it all up.

Google “cracking method wheels” and you’ll see why. I personally know 3 people that have cracked Method wheels.

There’s a reason they’re cheaper than most. Same reason you see tons of them for sale used

If you don’t find an OEM option you like, although not a fan of their suspension, Icon makes decent price 17” options that seem to Hold up better than methods.

Check Slee’s site, he offers them in lots of styles and sizes. I personally like the “Vector” model

I love the look of the Convoy as well, but in my limited research they had kind of wonky offset options for the 5x150 pattern

Good to know about the Methods. There are a few OEM wheels I like, just need to find a set that isn't horribly overpriced

Let me know which ones and I’ll find ya some, that’s what I do. 😂

The stock 2016+ are pretty plentiful on eBay

I’m on it…

There’s also a Tundra TRD (non BBS) variant that many folks here get and paint black.

They can be found super cheap and plentiful

If ya like the look, you could probably find a set, get them powdercoated and still be ahead on $ wise from a set of new aftermarket offerings.

And they’re the right offset, 18”, etc..

Discount is hit or miss.
Some are cool and some are sticklers.
I think the one by @Boston Mangler is pretty chill.
As far as independent shops I have had great luck with Bear’s Tires in Miramar, they mounted and balanced my 5 coopers for $100 last year.
