Where did you get that? I I need one of those made with Carling switch holes

@CruiserHeadParts

And so it begins…

The crank pulley zipped right off. It’s nice have a cat mechanic as a neighbor. Plans as of now:

Replace all the gaskets on the front
New water pump
New thermostat
Add 3 groove pulley
Add sag PS conversion
Add A/C compressor
Line X inner fenders and core support

Holy $hit we have A/C! It’s wild to think this rig did not come with AC yet all the wiring was there. Just had to bolt everything in and we are set. Still need to do a temp test.

Looking into doing a Hyperspark distributor and box to compliment the Sniper.

Pulled the cargo and rear hatch windows in preparation for ceramic tint tomorrow. They could have done the tint with windows in place but this will be much cleaner. Plus I have new gaskets to install.

Always nice to see no rust.

Ok long time no legitimate posts..

Body is going to @kelly saad this summer. So I’ll have the frame to work on. Needs some rust repair and I’m hoping to do the @TRAIL TAILOR coil swap kits.

I’m on the fence with that to do with the engine. The 2F runs great. I have all the parts to compliment the sniper to be added still ie hyperspark and CDI. So do I have the head rebuilt and maybe re ring it? As well as a full reseal.

Or

Should I go for it and say f the budget and move forward with the LS. Long term goal is a LS which will happen before my Alaska to South America trip (Fall 2030). But again I really enjoy the 2F right now.

I am biased and feel like LS is great in order to bring vehicle up to modern day standards in terms of acceleration but I have to admit there is something cool about a great running 2f. Either way fun to see what your building there.

Im taking my rig to @kelly saad next week, Much excite!

Ok so everything seems to be lining up correctly. I did have to heat up the aluminum head and drop the shaft about 1/8 of an inch to get a solid purchase into the oil pump drive. I stabbed the distributor twice and confirmed the rotor will spin as the engine cranks which leads me to believe the gear is appropriate.

This all makes sense to me because you can find an aftermarket DUI for a 2F but also lists the Chevy I6 in the fitment table.

I’m willing to bet I could have left the shaft where it was and still had the oil pump engaged but dropping it down some gave me more surface area on the drive.

Need to grab a small spacer and a hold down bracket and then I’ll stab for the final time.

Made a spacer out of a bronze spacer out of the general hardware section..

Blows my mind, you can walk into a park store and ask for a distributor hold down clamp and they have no idea what a distributor is… so unfortunately, waiting on Amazon to deliver one tomorrow

I got the distributor stabbed for the last time and phased correctly. I guess right now will be the optimal time to check valve clearance, but I think I’m going to just knock one thing off the list at a time.

When I ordered the hyper spark CDI box and coil, I ended up getting the all-in-one harness to replace all the miscellaneous connections so it’s one solid harness for the entire system now.

I also ordered the 5 inch touchscreen with speedometer because it was on Black Friday sale.

All good things must come to an end… haha well looks like the Sniper EFI ECU won’t register the Hyperspark. So I removed the entire system and sent it to Holley for bench testing. Hopefully in a week or so we will have her running again. But I must say, I am impressed with the equipment. Everything is well made, well labeled, and the tech support is top notch.

Man, that must be really frustrating! Sorry, hopefully you find a resolution soon. I guess I will ask, have you thought about going back to the carb? I have a sniper I pulled off my previous 40 and have thought about putting it on my 60, but hesitant to mess with it. I never had any success with it on my 40.

I love my sniper. Not a chance I’m going back to a carb. I was also able to delete almost all vacuum lines and ancillary accessories by ditching the carb. My sniper ran very well, some minor hiccups but nothing major.

I’m only in this boat because I really want the electronic advance. I want to keep the 2F as long as possible. I realize that with the money I have into this whole sniper system, I could have gotten really close to an LS swap but dang it’s fun driving a forklift with a four speed.

WE HAVE LIFT OFF! kinda, ok so everything is installed and running great. No more vacuum lines! I’ll need to re work the charcoal canister and tidy up the wiring, etc.

One thing I noticed almost immediately is a noticeable gain in power and the drive ability is much better. Still need to go through the learn completely but so far so good. I am very happy with the current setup!

I’ll have my OEM dizzy, coil, and igniter for sale soon if anyone is looking.

I forgot to mention what Holley said about the 2300 sniper. I guess in the early days of that system the hardware they were using is not compatible with a hyper spark. While the software will allow it, the hardware will not. So if you have an early generation 2300 unit, it will likely not work with a hyper spark distributor, CDI box, and coil.

HOLLEY was gracious enough to warranty my unit out and they sent me a brand new one that would support the hyper spark.. I don’t believe this was an issue on the four barrel models.
