lots of people (who i respect) on this thread are speculatingThat's only speculation. If OP was going very fast I'd be surprised if it made any difference one way or the other.
Until you sign the title over to the Insurance Company it is YOUR vehicle and you can do with it as you wish. Also, they are not allowed to mandate which shop you use. So definitely research some local shops, talk to them, and get a second opinion of your choosing. I repeat, you do not have to use their shops, and they are directing you to those two shops because they will be cheaper for the insurance company, not because they're the best shops.I had actually considered taking it to another shop for a second opinion. I’m not sure that’s normally done in the auto repair world. I have USAA for insurance. They initially gave me a choice between two shops. I took it to the one that’s locally owned. The other is part of a nationwide chain. I wonder if they’d let me tow it to the other shop?
This. Great points and I completely forgot about this. Whenever I have had to (unfortunately) deal with this, my insurance has always just said "pick who you want." I clearly took that for granted.Until you sign the title over to the Insurance Company it is YOUR vehicle and you can do with it as you wish. Also, they are not allowed to mandate which shop you use. Lots? I count 2. The entire (original) point of the ARB bumper was to protect vehicles from animal strikes in Australia. Mark Whatley's experience here in Alaska has convinced him that they do. I trust his word.lots of people (who i respect) on this thread are speculating
i trust their word

Is it possible that no frame damage would have occurred with a stock bumper? I suppose so.

Speculation on denial of coverage due to aftermarket parts is like speculating on denial for being over GVWR; everyone likes to talk about it yet no one can cite a real case.
Would a crash involving a truck with a 200lbs bumper be worse than one pulling a 7,000lbs trailer? Because according to that logic, the bumper would be negligence and the trailer normal use. Not a lawyer, but I believe the standard is willful intent.Agreed. I wouldn't worry about the bumper for a simple totaling out claim.
Now for a higher dollar situation (injuries / fatalities) I would NOT want to have a vehicle equipped with a 200lb aftermarket steel bumper that insurance / lawyers can (will?) point to as potentially causing more damage due to an aftermarket modification. Think (god forbid) hitting a pedestrian at low speed....

You and me both!I am poor and dont have any aftermarket bumpers, so take my opinion with a grain of turkish salt.
Everybody on here wants bumpers. They spend $3500 on one bumper. Then those bumpers total their truck?
I am confused.
No pictures as of now. Truck is still in their shop and I didn’t take any because it was dark out. Hit the deer at 1:00 am, did the claim online waiting for the tow truck, which took it directly to the shop. I’ve had questions about the shop since then. The lady there handling my case claimed to be unable to find or source a replacement bumper. I sent her direct links to the bumper in both the ARB site and to Slee, who actually installed it. She was like “are you sure you got it from them?” Um…yes, I’m sure.Total speculation here, but it's possible the ARB is fine with a frontal collision that primarily impacts the bumper itself, but if a large deer mostly hit the upper loop portion, I could see it bending the whole assembly backward.. and doing so to the ends of the frame horns too.
But again, that's speculation.
No pictures?
