New vs Old thoughts...Random thoughts....

-pretty much the same truck now....pick up where I left off... which I'm stoked about.

-IMO, the BFG MT KM2s rode WAY better than these Cooper ST Maxxs do (both 255/85/16 load range E). Hoping to swap them soon--just missed out on a good deal on some BFGs...oh well...

-I miss that silver. but red has really grown on me. I'll just keep making more parts of it black. Hood blackout is coming one day soon

-OEM roof racks are cool

-How did I--and how does anybody--drive these trucks *without* a Supercharger??? Its prob cause I got so used to the power of that 4.7 V8 in my old GX470, but damn that stock 3.4 was slooooooooowwwww. Even with the 4.88s. Sure it was decently peppy off the line, but freeway speeds/RPMs SUCKED. I was seriously having thoughts of selling this thing. Or running it out of oil so I would have a good excuse to 1UZ or 2UZ swap it. Going to 4.30s and the Supercharger has made it much more enjoyable. I think 4.56 would be perfect, but the 4.30s are good.

-80 series axles would be so awesome...

-did somebody say 1uZ or 2UZ swap.... haha

Nothing big to update... but she's getting old...

Have a PILE of stuff still waiting to get to on her... been doing summer kid stuff and busy doing fix up stuff around the casa all summer. That stuff is winding down now so hoping to soon get to the fuel filter, some headers, and the manual hub front conversion...

With the 5 speed, 4.88s and a supercharger buys are shredding rear diff ring gears. Not enough tooth engagement for the power. Good call going to 4.30 gears. Should be fine with that.

Interesting. I hadn't heard that. Anything like that with 4.56s? I been hoping it still feels about right with the 5 speed and 4.30s....but I am a little worried and part of me wants to go to 35s also....

Ya at work their is a group of us with 3rd gen 4runners. One guy has a 5 speed with 4.88s. He refuses to step down to 4.56 or something with more tooth engagement. He is on his 5th set of gears, and the 5th set is howling. He just ordered a diamond housing with the 9.5 diff. I would stick with 4.30 gears, if it still feels sluggish go to a smaller pulley and 7th injector.

Browsing the local classifieds this morning as I do every couple days and I found a fantastic deal on a 98 V6 4x4 5speed with J-case. 143K miles. Bell housing, slave cylinder, clutch fork, throw out bearing, cross member, tran mount, tran shifter, tcase shifter... I'll replace the throw out of course, but I think it was a pretty good deal for $400 bucks. Plus got a fantastic new contact cause the dude works for a local wrecker, has performed a time of 3.4 swaps and 5 speed swaps and has a Toyota wiring guy if I need any wiring help on the ecu.

Stoked.

Picked up all the other stuff needed from a dude in SoCal when I was down there a week ago. Actually ended up now with an extra bell housing, slave cylinder, clutch fork and throw out....

Just need to get a new clutch kit and I got it all ready to go.

Now just need to find some time to get all this crap installed.....

Thanks for the pic! Looks the same as what I saw on mine.
Doesn't look to have flats for a wrench. So I'm guessing not.

So a few months ago I relocated to another part of the state (now in Southern Utah) and I dont know any shops around so I put out a feeler on an FB group for shop recommendations to get the knuckle and hub press work done. Got some suggestions that seemed pretty good and one was only a few mins from my house. Checked their FB page and they've got pics of sweet 55s and 45s at their shop. Sweet! They even came recommended by none other than @woody himself!

Rolled up and this is what I see out front--that's how you know you've def came to the right place:

Finished install. @fj55-100 Evan did an absolutely awesome job on doing the press work for the new axle hubs. Super stoked to find an awesome local shop and giant bonus that they're ´Mudders!

So on the install, I've got 4 of the aisin hubs, 3 with gray and 1 with red. Two of the gray ones arent functioning (free/lock dials wont move freely) so I'm rocking 1 gray, 1 red. I know the gray is the proper color for the 1st Gen Tacoma, but I really dig the red. I'll prob paint a gray one over to red. One day. For now, calling this mod done!

"Like sands through the hourglass, so are the rides of Ferg's life..."

I never updated here, but I sold this truck on a whim in late 2017. Bought a 2005 DC Tundra on a whim drive that for a bit, sold it on a whom cause I hated the brown interior, bought another GX470, loved the way that drove but hated the it looked (sorry, not sorry, the GX470 is fugly, IMO), so bought a 2006 DC Tacoma, hated the way that drove, so sold it, kept rollin the GX470 for a while (still hated how fugly it was) and just got sick of its fugliness and sold it this past summer. Was without a personal vehicle since around August.

Started really looking and trying to figure out what I wanted. Came up with a plan and an end game of what would be the ultimate ride for /me/ and decided it starts with a 1G DC Tacoma. I love the look and style (though I planned to make a couple changes when I got one). Love the way they drive. Love having the bed to haul stuff when needed, yet also 4 doors, yet also still smallish and nimbleish offroad. 1G DC Tacoma is the start.

So looked for a few months. Put out some WTB threads, and low and behold, dude contacted me and said he was looking to sell my old DC Tacoma. I was intrigued. We talked. Made a deal. And 1.5 months later, he drove it back out from SoCal and parked it in my driveway for me late Tuesday night.
