Hi All:

Welcome back to the land of the big PX, Patrick! Glad you made it home in one piece!

Good luck on your FJ40 build! Might I suggest you start the project with the boring steering and brake systems? :D Common upgrades to these include a Saginaw power steering swap and installation of disc front brakes from a later year Land Cruiser (1976-89) or 1979-85 Toyota 4wd truck/4Runner. But, there are other options as well.

Regarding the 4.3L swap, it should be nice. But, it all depends upon what you intend to use the rig for and how you equip it. What size tires are you planning on fitting, for instance?

Regards,

Alan

i feel so loved with all these responses

Thanks for the welcome every one and i really appreciate the support, its always great to meet some patriots, seems like the land cruiser crowd has quite a few.

Plans for the cruiser are going to be daily driver duties and mild trail running for now. I have 33's on there now with the front disc brake conversion already done before i got deployed my first time to Iraq. Im with you on the power steering conversion and your right, ill make that the first thing that gets done when i get it home. I will also post pics asap and all through the build which will as you all know be forever :grinpimp:.

Thanks again all, and since i never show up any where empty handed, these are for you guys :D :beer::beer::beer::beer:

Welcome home cowboy!!! Sometimes I feel like I've forgotten more about 4.3's in Toyotas than most people are ever going to learn. (don't mean that literally). The way this exercise normally works is you tell me about your stock engine/tranny, and your new engine/tranny choice, then I make you an A list and B list. The A list is the items you would buy from Downey because they are not available in your home town (i.e. motor mounts, adapters, reluctor rings, VSS's, etc.) The B list is items you need from Downey OR from your home town. This includes items such as:
(a) big ass radiator
(b) power steering pressure hose
(c) auto shifter
(d) etc. etc. etc.
The B list items can be found on e-bay, swap meet, wrecking yard, or hanging on your buddies garage wall. When you get ready, call me: (562)949-9494

Hi All:

Patrick, sounds like the GM 4.3L V-6 and that four speed overdrive autobox should work well for your needs. What transfer case are you thinking of using?

"You guys are better than finding out you don't have herpes after all."

I love this quote! :grinpimp: The love in this statement is just, well, overwhelming! :D

Alan
