I recently came across a site (http://www.off-road.com/toyota/tech/other/4_axles.html) to identify the axles in my 1988 JDM BJ71, code K085: 9.5" ring gear, 4.11 gears and a 4 pinion limeted slip. this leads me to my question, are the JDM BJ's blessed with bigger axles then the North American version?

How do these axles compare in strenght to a Dana 60? I beleive they have 9.75" ring gear which isn't much difrent but what about the housing and the axle shafts? How many spline are the toyota axle shafts?

tubing is stronger (not pressed in axles like the Dana), i do not have any specs to back up my opinion and others may have some but i beleive they are similar in strength to the D60

If you want to jump the crap out of it you will need to reinforce it anyway. I've had a banana shaped housing sitting in the shop for some time. The knuckles were fine, as were the spindles.

Can JDM axles be easily swapped to NA trucks? Is it as simple as bolting them in and swapping out steering arms?

yep
except coil sprung units, the cross arm (i forget the proper name right now) is reversed i beleive

Toy Cruiser axles are 1.31 " diameter, plus 30 splines daba daba daba ..

Danas can come in 35 splines versions and 1.41" diameter .. I thought not sure about the diameter .. but are definately more stronger in some version than Toy ..

In fact .. are some Nissan Patrol axles that come with 31" splines and little mode diameter .. stronger than Cruiser axle .. maybe ..

I'm pretty sure that Toy axles are enought strong for a normal aplication and I'm a Toy believer .coz I never broke an axle ..

I thought ( based in my experience only ) Toy axles handle up to 39" no more .. ( locked of course with cromo set in front ) more than 39" Dana and 14 bolt corporate is your deal
