I'm planning on going 4 wheel disc brakes on my '67 FJ45. I found a front and rear axle setup out of a '79 FJ55 for sale on Craigslist, I'd just need to disc the rear. Any know what mods if any will need to be done to get these mounted on the '45?

Just keep in mind if they're 79s, they'll have the taller 3:70 gears. I put a set in @FJ45Dude's truck. With the 2F he got from @orangefj45, it works just fine.

Also, not sure if your planning on replumbing new brake lines but the truck will have the old, obsolete 9mm hardware and those axles are 10mm. It's easy to cut/flare the lines and replace with the 10mm stuff.

Are you adding a booster or just upgrading to a dual circuit master cylinder? I need to tackle this same upgrade on my 45 some day also.

I plan on replumbing the brake lines, never done it before so it'll be a new experience :)

I bought the disc brake booster from @Racer65 and an 80 series master cylinder from @cruiseroutfit.

Can anyone tell me from either looking at the axle picture or identifying marks I need to look for on the axles when picking them up, to make sure I'm getting what's advertised ('79 FJ55 front and rear axle setups)? I will be picking them up after dark, so the easier the better.

Not sure of the build date, may have been built in '78 and have the 4:11's. Probably not going to see a lot of off road travel, so I'm good either way. Thanks for chiming in Mark

Justin,
What is your plan for dealing with the rib On the firewall? Are you trimming it off or using a spacer? Just keep in mind the extra length of the booster and MC make things really tight in there.

It's funny, I had been eyeballing that same set of axles on CL. I just wasn't ready to tackle the project. Guess they were destined to end up under an FJ45!

Ha! That's funny you were eyeing he same axles. The timing for me could not have been better.

I plan on using the JTO spacer, as the thought of modifying that support rib just does not seem like a viable option to me for several reasons. I know it will be tight, but it has been done before so I think I can do it. The booster I got is relatively small and the 80 series master definitely looks smaller than others I've seen. Fingers crossed on all my plans!

I sell booster adapters too...if you feel like supporting a community vendor.

unless the diffs have been changed, if it has the smaller knuckle pattern it should be 4:11's, the larger knuckle pattern should be 3:70's
another would be if it has the short aisin hubs it will be the 79+, the longer hubs would be earlier.

Both excellent points Paul.

Thank you!

It'll definitely be a midnight parts run, I can't believe the things we all do for our Cruisers. Crazy for sure :grinpimp:

I don't think crazy halfcovers what we do for our cruisers some times. I did a 30 hour solo run to Dallas from northern Al last year fora pair of axels. :steer:

You did a 30 hour solo parts run? Doesn't surprise me, I've been watching your build thread... You've got the sickness bad... REAL BAD!

Great work BTW

Thanks Kreutz! I ran for the axels in June and in December I went back to Dallas to pickup my engine. I didn't do that one solo. But Roma and I dodged tornadoes most of the way there.
