I have installed the Tercel fan in fornt of my condenser, but
I am having trouble getting it wired up ( I suck at wiring).

Can I cut the pressure switch wire and tie into it (butt splice)?
Will this render the pressure switch useless?

I want to use the pressure switch to turn on a relay
when the a/c is on (I want the fan on when the a/c is on - no cycling).

Thanks,

Steve

I would use the compressor clutch wire to trigger a relay for the fan.

So, whenever the compressor is actually doing work, the fan would be running.

There is a single wire leading to the clutch (the only wire on the compressor).

DO NOT use that wire to power the fan directly as Bailey said, use it only as a relay trigger wire.

Dan, Isn't there a writeup with wiring diagrams similar to your setup floating around here? I'm gonna do this.... someday.

My fan is manually switched. I like to have it available for high ambient temperature off-road operation.

Here's a schematic on how i wired mine up to come on with the ac clutch or manually (for wheeling or towing). I also put in a kill switch for water crossings although the fan i used has a ring so chances of snapping blades is unlikley versus other non-ringed fan types like the black magic fan on my 4Rnr.

M1 and M2 are for two different fan motors and the diagram shows double pole relays. I ended up using single pole relays cause they were $5 each vs. $30 for DP ones. Premise is the same.

happy wiring!

Okay, I guess I'm thinking a combination of Dan's and Wilee's setups. I would like to use the rear heater switch to turn on the fan maually (red), turn on with compressor (green), and off when off. Although I thought somebody did this exact setup.

How Hot the Condensor?

How hot does the condensor usually get while operating?

About the same as the rad?

I was thinking that I could get one of these cheap controllers:

And put the probe in the fins of the condensor. I would probably also have a 3way switch installed so that I can have the choice between always off, on when the condensor is over 170 degrees, or always on, which would still come off of the ignition, I suspect, as I don't want to forget about it and leave it running.

Thoughts?

Also: anyone know where I could get a simple timer that would keep running for a minute or so after I remove the "on" current?
