Hope you don’t mind me posting a few pics of my FJ40 I recently purchased. Found it listed locally on Facebook, turns out it was my Sister in Law’s uncles car. 1976 FJ40 with original 2F and 4 speed. I pretty well bought it site unseen, transferred the funds and had my brother pick it up for me. The PO had been using it as a fishing rig, hauling his small boat from place to place. He had recently been put in hospital on end of life care, and the family was excited that I planned to tidy it up and drive it regularly. The owner before him had painted it blue, with what appears to be house paint, as he said most of it washed off in the rain, and mostly only a grey primer was left all over the body.
I set to work straight away with some 1000 grit wet and dry to try find some original paint, which to my suprise came through well. Over the last two weekends I have been wet sanding, buffing and generally tidying up to get her looking as she should.
I’m not planning on a frame off full restoration with this one. Just make it a respectable daily driver.
List of immediate things to repair are

Throw the Holley carby in the bin and fit a reconditioned aisin carby.

Find a original Air cleaner

Repair the window regulators

Get the AC working

Fix the 1000 rattles.

Came with the original grey split rims with crappy tires, so I’ll look for some new rubber, but for now I’m happy with the white wheels

Adjust the rattly tappets

Looking great! Thanks for sharing! Always liked those striped seats. Removing the oversized bumper was a win. 🙂
