Australia Drops V8 Petrol

In Europe the trend is to get rid of Diesel engines .
Specially in big urban areas .
Some engines emissions are already off limits and can't circulate fro 7,30 to 19,30 .
Petrol engines are not so much under pressure , but will get there .
The future as I see it , is going electric, or in the meantime Hybrid .
A good electric LC with a small petrol o diesel generator will be fantastic .
Electric engine wins against all thermal engines any time .
Only small problem is the recharging time and range ....
But I am confident in tecnologie progress .

@renago, Only the older vehicles have issues with restrictions in Europe. Bosch have already proven a diesel can have better emissions than a petrol. Petrol vehicles will have particulate filters soon. Its a lot harder for them to get their CO numbers down. The issue with diesels used to be the NOx emission, not that has been solved i think we will see a resurgence. With the better ecconomy, higher torque numbers and in most cases, increased reliability.

In urban areas the problem is not only CO2 , but a combination of all emissions that combine with rain and will lead to high pollution.
In Europe we have rated that with an Euro n. , different for petrol and Diesel cars .
But also have the rating for LPG , and methane emissions .
The problem is quite complex , both on an thermal engine , economic scale , and new electric mobility .
I don't see a perfect and viable solution , at present .
Might be electric if , timing for refill batteries or capacitors is 10-15 min , and range is at least 500 km .
But we are not there yet .
Plus a good refill network .
Thermal engines , have come to their peak in progress .
Very small improvement can be made at very high cost .
Not worth in my opinion ,but necessary due to lack of alternative .
If you have driven a hybrid car or electric , you will never go back to the old traditional diesel or petrol engine .
Tourque , power , and precision of delivery of these is out of reach for the old school .

I have driven many hybrid and EV vehicles. Can they do 1500-1800km without refueling? How about tow 3500kg around the country with a min 1000km range? EV's are fine for the cities. A complete waste of time for farmers, touring, towing. The tech is a LONG way from being suitable. Im not anti-EV by any means but i buy landcruisers for a reason. An EV just has nothing i need in a vehicle. EV's arent the green solution that many think they are. Nor are diesels the smog producing baby killers that some think.

Diesels don't make enough power. And are heavy powerrtrains that eat up payload.

Nevermind the retarded mandated unreliable emissions components necessary in the US.

That's the typical US sentiment which is why we won't see a diesel cruiser ever again in the US.

Bad stuff Canadians turning Eco Nazis glad I don’t live there.

Canada:
Use less fuel...and send your garbage to the Philippines in shipping containers... Bizarre.

Maybe we’re glad you don’t too? No, actually, I’m really glad you don’t live here. You should stay where the real Nazis demonstrate freely and don’t come to where our worst fears are losing a polluting, gas pig of an engine.

Yeah. A mislabeled container is proof that we’re a bunch of bizarros. That was probably the worst case of polluting in history, wasn’t it?

Oh, come on. Roll with a bit of teasing over screw-ups. First...Canada is fine. But if ya wanna get serious... It sat there for 5+ years and it took international shaming before Canada finally agreed to ship it home.

But meh...
**I am from FAR more BIZARRO California...and quite used to my State being called that and worse. Ya gotta let us crazy CA folk tease when we can bc usually we are the butt of most comments. :) Every country, state & territory does dumb stuff. I’m just noting irony.

Anyway...
Will be very interesting to see what Toyota comes up with. LCs have gained power with each iteration in the US, and they seem to swear up and down that performance will not degrade. So....curious what they'll do next since the 5.7 won’t be here forever.

I made 200kw at the tyres with just a tune. Then upgraded turbo's for 330kw, then some new mods for 400kw. I also went from 650nm from the fly to 870nm at the tyres then with turbo's im at 1080nm... What does your petrol do?

Of course we're talking about stock for stock. In the 200-series, the 5.7L petrol @ 397hp (EDIT 383hp) is just a wee more powerful than the 4.5L diesel at ~250hp.

I believe the 450d in Australia, at least in Lexus guise, likely loses the 3rd row seats and sunroof on account of compensating for the diesel weight.

To your point, diesels are beastly things when tuned. Actually, turbo engines of all types can be beastly when tuned. The turbo petrol in my other car, about 500kw, for 3200lbs. ;) Which is why I'm good with the 300-series getting a turbo petrol motor.

Boring presenter but some compare and contrast of the 5.7L petrol vs 4.5L diesel:

Okay, I may have over reacted. But it was a private company that sent some “recycable plastics” to be recycled and not a “Canadian” thing but a Canadian company that sent 1-okay 67- containers of garbage (like we don’t have the space for garbage here) and the Canadian government slow walked making it right before they accepted the return.

2,000 HP (...if tuned and tweaked like your example)

Land Speed Cruiser

Where are you finding a stock 5.7L petrol engine in a 200-series that puts out 397hp?

I've been working under the assumption that the 381hp/383hp numbers for that engine from Toyota are correct.

TIA

Thanks for the correction. Numbers saved in my brain for the wrong car!

You guys sent 103 containers. We only sent back 69 because we had to bury the rest of your crap here.

How does this have ANYTHING to do with Australia dropping the petrol engine option in 200-series landcruisers?

Talked to a Land Cruiser guy yesterday in a parking lot who was quizzing me about my LC. He has an 80...but he also has an eco-boost 6 in his F series. Toes over 12,000lbs. Does that sound right?

Engine...Gasoline...environmental factors...Canadian requirements...Inconsistencies.

It happens.
