What: August Ride
Where: Stoney Lonesome OHV
When: Meet at the Wal-mart parking lot in Gardendale at 9 AM

There is a new higher resolution map posted on their website:

http://www.stonylonesomeohv.us/images/Stony_Lonesome_Map_05182010.pdf

There are some trails (503, 422) in the back of the rock crawling area we haven't gotten to yet. I think the better map will make for a much better trip.

Please post up if you think you are going to make it and/or if you would like to change the time or meeting place.

The Auburn crowd will be at the big event at the Great American Park that weekend.

I'll be at Sloss that weekend.

in my view its not worth a 4 hour drive.

I'll meet up with folks at the Jacks near the hwy 69 (Jasper Exit) of I-65.

If we get the fan shroud fixed up on my truck...going to GM mechanical radiator fan and fan clutch.

I'll be there

This is bull****.
If you guys do this ride on this day then i will drop this forum from my list. Seriously.

what? seriously? - several of us up here have talked about it and this is the only weekend many could do it. I want to test the truck out on some easier trails before I take it down and break something in Auburn. I am open to suggestions for another weekend. I can't do it the 14th though.

It's like having a party only to find that someone in your own class has decided to have one the same night.

This all just conjures up why I don't organize stuff and never even try to plan. I'm not trying to be pissy.
We tried getting a club ride together for this month at The GAP, no interest. So we pimped the big event on Aug 21st to everyone in the entire southern region on multiple forums.... no interest. So it's not ya'lls fault if no one in the entire region cares about a new park, everyone obviously feels the same way, with the "who cares" attitude or you would've decided to come down the event instead of creating a new one at a park that obviously has nothing more than forest service roads on it.
I'd love to come up there but not on that weekend. It is what it is. It's not ya'll its just the fact that we want folks to enjoy this cool new park that we have down here and NO ONE seems to really want to come. We've had like 4 out of towners in 6 months come. It changes everytime we go out there so if you've come, then it's definitely different. i realize stock rigs may become bored... But hell, I've been bored at Tellico. it's not the riding more than it's the comradarie... The second you realize this... you'd be willing to travel 5 hours to sit around a pool with folks.... ask me, i've done it.

If a handful of you need to go up there, that's fine, i understand circumstances... but PLEASE try to support the event being held in the southern part of the state.
That said, the best thing for ya'll to do is get together where-ever that is, and if it's up there, then do it, because that's the most important thing, is to just get out there.

Yaull need to come to Auburn. Tell the owner what you like and what you want, he will build it. He needs input from others, especially the milder wheelers. He will be at the park the whole time and is very very open to suggestions. Give it a try and have a great time hanging out with everyone.

The owner has tons of equipment and the ability to build anything on site. He built a 3+ mile long trail around the perimeter of the place in just a few days!

same thing can be said for many of the rides.... sometimes things are closer to your backyard than other locations. In my case we are working on the cooling for my truck... If I have a problem with it (here locally) its a not a big deal... If I haul @$$ down to Auburn and then have a problem its bigger issue.

Scheduling wise... I can't work the Auburn deal....I can potentailly show up in my own county though..

Many folks have said they would show at various rides ...and that never happened.

Sitll working on the cooling for now and maybe will have A/C soon. (yeah I know...but the A/C is a good thing if I can get it work).

I think that is where we are right now. I have an untested rig at this point also. Breaking down in Cullman would be bad, but I could at least get home and the chances of breaking something there are minimal.

I don't want to pull anyone away from the Auburn ride, so if you are trying to decide between the two - without question go to Rockfest. It was planned first, will be bigger, badder, better all around.

The real problem is that this state SUCKS for 4wheeling. Maybe up north it is great but down south here it is the crotch of America.

I'm a big proponenent of organization and clubs though just the opposite of Eric. One thing he has right though is it is about the people. Some of my best freinds I made in NC were in my Land Cruiser club and I would drive 7 hours to meet them on a weekend to do a trail ride if that is what it took. I guess I just need to get somewhere and meet you all once and get hooked.

Maybe we need to split the Alabama Forum up into to Chapters? One south and one north? I agree I'm not going to drive 4 hours on my one day off to ride some service trails but at the same time I don't feel like driving 2 hours to ride a couple of class 4 rock gardens that last all of about 100 feet like in Aubrun.

I love clubs. But trying to keep them organized is a big pain. Look what happened, TWO rides the same day within a "club"...

I'm not interested in splitting the two clubs and definitely not forums... there's already too many forums to check these days. And this one is dead as it is...
You know why CottonLand is so chattery? Or Upstate? Because they all get together.

I'm interested in gatherings. I love it. I'm about to head to a shop and help a group tonight... see my FB for what we've been doing... We're all going to MM next weekend for the Rock Rally... We have a great time. I have a great time with folks from all over the SouthEast. But you know how I do that? by getting together with these folks... You know how many times I watched bigger trucks do things all day? I can't count that high. The last year and half I didn't even show up with a truck to events... including Cruise Moab and LoneStar Round-Up.

don't think splitting the forum is helpful at all. People just have to get off their @$$ and go to some of these things. We had an "organized ride" in another group I belong to for Harlan, KY.... I was the only official member who showed up from AL & TN, after multiple folks (said they were in)...and I'm not even a hard core idiot.

This is just a one time deal that shows the larger picture... I don't care if we have an organized club or not...I just want to go out on rides and have fun with that. Can't make the Auburn deal this time but will look at that in the future.

This has nothing to do with "us" vs. "them".... you guys in Auburn have had a local group for some time ..right? The rest of us have just been a loose connection of folks around Birmingham and one or two living north of Birmingham . I've never seen anyone from Huntsville or Florence or places north of Birmingham chime in on this forum (in this specific area for the most part) other than Phil every now and then. Fort Payne, Scottsboro..etc... Like most folks...some of these people generally ride in their own backyard if they have access.

Back when the organization drive was going on...I tried to get folks to meet in a central place or where a large groups of the folks generally lived....to talk through the "organization business"...no-one ever moved on that and I got tired of asking. The state thing for organiztion is a pretty dead duck in my view.

For history...we had floated all kinds of ideas... never got off the ground (state orgranziaton).

When I say I'm in ...that generally is fact...unless something unplanned happens or work gets in the way.

I saw a bunch of Jeep guys up near Tracy City...multiple groups, I've seen a good turn out at HiTop. The other places I've been we've been lucky to have 5 trucks show.

I don't care what type truck soemone drives....be nice to just get out and have fun... in my view...it may have to wait until the temps cool off a little.

In my view the best we can hope for is a loose informal group / club.. that people will get together to help each other out and go on rides.

The state of AL is what it is.. not much you can do about that.

How about folks post up rides and if people show that's great... it would be nice if we had more participation...but like some folks have family issues and other things going on. Hell I could not get anyone to agree to meet one afternoon for a few hours to talk things over...my expectations for large number of folks to show up for rides is not high at all.

good job - I've got a growing list of stuff to get done in the next couple of weeks. My ghetto clutch pedal bucket folded on me on Tuesday in Huntsville so I've got to move that to the top of the list. I'll probably go ahead and make two of them since Eric is going to need one soon too. also, my new from Napa chinese master cylinder is leaking already, I don't know if the floppy bucket could cause it or if it is bad from the start. I don't have a receipt so I am hesitant to go replacing it just to see. finish the bender and build sliders, skid plate, rear bumper...

yeah... I avoid the chinese made stuff whenever possible.

Can't you "swap" in a clutch pedal bucket from a 60? I'm sure its not as simple as that..or wonder if you can get a bucket assembly for an 80 non US model?

I used the 60 bucket to start with. The clutch and brake are all part of one piece in the 60, and they are too close together to use in the 80. I cut the clutch portion off and welded in a little bracing, but I knew it was too weak when I did it. The 80 uses two separate pieces, I could order them but it would be $200. Once I get the pattern figured out it shouldn't be too hard to make them out of some 1/8" plate.
