My volume control on the 2008 LX570 just failed. No sound, no indication of volume level on the screen; the audio screen still shows the system working, but the speakers are sleeping. Any suggestions on where to start troubleshooting?

My first thought ran to the amp, but the audio system was working and then just stopped, and the audio screen shows no volume increase/decrease, for any of the audio functions (AM/FM, Disc/Aux, etc), as the control is adjusted, which led me to believe it was the potentiometer itself. I have no idea how the control feedback is tied to the video output (to indicate volume levels, for instance), so I'm really at a loss as to where to begin.

The amp sounds like a good place to start.
Check the fuse too.

Hopefully isn't your multi-media assy unit.

Does your speaker fader balance show all the way back and right?

Also this was the symptom I had when my amp failed. Everything works, just no audio.

Steering wheel controls?

Fader does work, as does the balance (L/R), and the problem is now intermittent - I just checked it and the sound is as it should be. I now have no faith that it'll continue...

How long ago did you replace the amp and what did you replace it with - OEM or aftermarket? I'd appreciate all the details I can get at this point.

Steering wheel controls?
They work as expected. Good catch, though; I didn't think to check that earlier.

A couple years ago. I ended up with a dsp and aftermarket amps. There are a total of 12 driven channels. There is L, R, and Digital coax available under the seat. The main issue is getting 12 channels to fit under the seat. To do it again is around $800. Toss in another $400 if you replace the sub add sound damping to the sub, and buy an amp for that. It uses all the stock controls/sources except the volume is now in the ashtray. And there is a direct Bluetooth source to the dsp too.
The sound is markedly better, particularly the center imaging and bass.

These guys fix amps.

If the steering wheel buttons work, is it a failed amp?

My steering wheel source buttons work, but not the volume button. On the LX the amp is responsible for volume, fade , balance, dsp and amplification, and cd copying to hard drive.

It looks like I have the same issue, everything appears to look to be working but zero sound. I also don’t have the volume appearing in the screen when adjusting, but all other functions work from the steering wheel.

I entered diagnostics mode (hold the info button while turning parking lights on off 3 times) and confirmed the volume knob and steering wheel switches are working. I’ve tried disconnecting the battery for some time to reset but didn’t help.

Not sure if it‘s the amp or something else as I would have expected the volume to show on the display?

Check the FL1 plug.

Hi,

Doing some diagnostics on this one and have found fuse #43 in the under hood fuse box blown = RSE rear seat entertainment. It’s a 7.5A fuse, and upon putting a new one in it blew straight away without even turning on the ignition.

I pulled out the LH front seat and inspected the amp for cleanliness and apart from a few crumbs it was spotless. The short remains even with the amp unplugged.

Does anyone know what else might be on this circuit, or can point me to a wiring diagram please (RHD LX 10/2012 build)?

I should disconnect the RH front seat as well to isolate the RHS RSE screen.

Greg.

Unfortunately there wasn't a 2012 model in the US. I looked at the FSM for manufacture dates before Jan2012.
I hope this will help at least get you started. If the items are mirrored it shouldn't be too hard to track down.
What the RSE fuse is linked to -> (connector AL1, pin 8)
Where AL1 is located
What AL1 pinout is
The other location to check is the television display assembly, L49, pins 14 and 28. I assume that is in in your headliner. <edit added the location and pinout>

Thanks Grinchy.

I think the US 2013 might be a closer match, mine doesn’t have the roof mounted TV screen as it has the 2 rear of front seat mounted screens.

Another online diagram I googled earlier showed the RSE fuse feeding the dash display I thought, however that was working fine.

Ok. AL1 is in the same place, but in 2013 heads down to L55 in the center console.
