So, I put one of those display grid attic racks up in my rig this past weekend, and I thought I'd post some pics. The reason I started a new thread is to show the bend I put in the front edge, which keeps it from interfering with middle seat passengers' heads, and keeps gear on the rack. The other attic rack threads were getting very long, as well.
So, all I did differently than others is I ground about half the material away in the solid grid material in a straight line across the 48" width, and just rearward (as it is mounted) of the second width length tube. The idea was to weaken the material so that when I attempted to bend it, the bend would be uniform and would create a lip which was the height of one square of the material. It worked quite well, and after I bent it and created some flaked off paint I hit it with a steel brush and then some black paint.
This bend resulted in the forward corners hitting the headliner, making it impossible to mount the rack. So, I got out the cutter again (my original piece was 2' x 7', so I had to cut it to 2' x 4') and cut off those forward corners.
Also, the rearmost corners were rubbing on the headliner so I wrapped them in a little black duct tape, then rescue tape over that. I didn't want to rip the liner.
The end result is fantastic. I couldn't be happier with it. Thanks to those who posted theirs earlier, and I hope someone else finds my post and pics helpful.
