Packing system.

Britklr
This Cruiser of yours is just awesome!!
It really inspires me to try and take mine in the same direction.

At the moment I am planning on making a similar packing system in the back.
(Hope there is no copy-right infringement :) )
I would just like to know if and how you secured the wooden base to the Cruiser. Or is it just the weight and the fit that keeps in place? Has it ever moved under hard braking or in rough offroad situations? I do not want to drill any holes in my car and will only use exiting holes or mounting points. I thought about removing the 4 tie-down shackles that Toyota fitted and securing it there with longer bolts?

Is there in hindsight any things that you would have made differently?

Any help will be much appreciated.

Regards

Petoors-

Thanks.

The platform is kept in place by the tie downs and straps. I'll take some pictures of the system and get them to you. As far as movement, when loaded its never moved even when off roading, climbing, washboards and hardbraking. The design took those situations into account and I've been pleased with it.
Good luck on your build and please share your ideas.

Moving West!!!!!

Its been a long time coming, but after retiring my beautiful wife and I have moved to Cruiser paradise. Here's a short pictorial of the 650 mile migration of the "Rhino Ride" to its new home on the Front Range.

Stopped by to visit my son as he studies for finals and woke him up after a Friday night study party with his fraternity brothers (raise your hand if you believe that!).

Here's some shots of the Mac tiedowns that are bolted to the floor around the perimeter of the platform. Once straps are run through the tiedowns and the holes in the platform it's not going anywhere.

Good luck on your project!

I have the USCargoControl version of those and they are great. Trying to figure out how to fab them up to create a fork mount system for my bike... Getting ready to try version 2.0 now ..LOL

Warning: Not A FJ60........;)

I'd been working around the house and decided to take the Sammy out for a little exploring since it has been in the garage for weeks and hadn't really gotten run for awhile. Drove up through Eldora and up to the Forth of July campground and found a wonderful snow melt flooded trail to explore. At points the water at the top of the 31's, but Sammy just motored through. It's beautiful this time of year as everything starts to wake up.

Me and my dad just got back fromColorado today. We took our FJ40 up there and unloaded it at our new home in Fort Collins. What part of Colorado r u in?

Up outside Boulder in the county approx. 15 miles. Our little piece of heaven!

On the lower part of our property is an old mining road to some mines on the property. Cleaned the trail up and took the 60 out to play.

Went out with the wonderful men and women of the Rising Sun 4wd Club and US Forest Service this weekend and helped clean-up a camping area and repair some fencing and gates. It was a fantastic time, tempered only by the people that destroy and trash these beautiful places.

This collaborative effort between an off road club and the forest service is truly inspiring!

Motor mounts...???...

I guess after 250,000 miles it was just a matter of time....

This weekend I was up on Jenny Creek Trail and had to turn around on a very steep section, so I dropped it into 4wd low and started to back up. It became very clear, very quickly that my front end wasn't locked in even though the transfer case, front hubs and rear end was locked.
So, after a short while and after locking in the rear ARB locker, I got off the trail (very exciting!). I've crawled under the RR and noticed that the driver side motor mount appears to be cracked, so I guessing that's the problem or there is a linkage adjustment problem. Plus, I'm going off what others have identified here on MUD. So, my plan is to pull the old original ones and replace them with OEM parts.

Any suggestions of what else to check or advice on changing the MM would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks.
