That's awesome! I know that my SIL/BIL in Steamboat Springs have been getting some snow. We got a little bit and hoping for more tonight!! The news is saying that our snowpack is already above average... El Nino PLEASE COME!!!!!
 
Wow! Where was that? I live in Lake City, and have had very little snow so far. In fact it was so nice today that I went fishing.:rolleyes::cheers:

Wow...been awhile since i've been on here. Been spending a lot of time on Expo and growing ATC. The Rhino Ride is still alive and kicking in the Rockies, but I do need to redo somethings on her. Hope to start adding to this soon.

Hows the headlight harness doing? I have been thinking about making some more. Whats the plans for the old 2f?

Great to hear from you. Hope life is good out East. As for the harness,,,,,,well,,,,,it's kinda still in the box somewhere in my garage. Sorry. My plan once I have the shop built is do a full refresh on the 60. As for the 2f, I don't what the heck to do. I've looked into the 5.3/5.7 conversion, rebuild the 2f or go diesel. the current 2f lost compression in a couple of cylinders and I have a parts rig with a solid head, so I may just swap out the head and see what happens. Lmk what you think.

Btw, have you talked with Brian much?

It's been awhile since I've updated this thread. Mainly due to the fact that ole 60 being temporary retired due to the 2F being worn out. It all started when I went to have it emissioned tested a couple of years ago and it wouldn't pass. I took it to a local Toyota mechanic that knows Boulder County emissions and we tweaked it, adjusted it, tuned it and it still failed. We then did a pressure test and learned two cylinder were at low psi. We pulled the plugs and scoped the cylinders and it was clear the cylinders were shot. Fast forward, I've been looking for a low mile 2f to simply do a swap versus the cost and time to have it rebuilt and get it back on the trail. It's taken me about 2 years to find one.

Well, I finally found this 1987, 140k, 2f take-out! Not bad for a 31 year old motor with great psi numbers on all cylinders. My plan is to go through it and replace seals and gaskets and transfer the accessory parts over.

Question: Pull the old engine with or without the transmission and t-case? Thanks!

Got that heavy thing off the trailer and onto the engine mount! Now need to clean it up and throw in some new seals and start the breakdown of the other engine.

I have always thought pulling the engine/trans combo was better but not so sure on a 60. I like your low mileage replacement idea. Probably fine for 150,000 more miles with that used engine. Cost effective
 
Might just be time to pull the trans and t-case and rebuild them rather than piecemeal the job. I second doing the hood strut conversion .

Maybe time to put in a H55 since it is apart. That will save you the trouble of rebuilding the transmission.

When I originally built out my 60 I installed a new OEM H55, new clutch/flywheel, new clutch hydraulics (master, slave and lines), rebuilt t-case, balanced drive shafts, new u-joints, 4.56 gears front and rear, ARB lockers front and rear, rebuilt front axle and rear axle, new brakes and lines. All these components are in great shape, except for a noisy throwout bearing, so I should be good to go.

During my build I left the original engine alone because it ran good and didn't burn any oil. I can't really say why two of the cylinders lost compression. I've been fighting back and forth over rebuilding, converting to a Chevy motor or dropping in a good used motor. Finding this one kinda made the decision for me. Oh, the other reason for dragging my feet was I didn't have a shop to work on the 60 in, just had my first meeting with our Engineer and I hope to have the shop up next spring!

Pull it as one and stab it back in as one. If not you will have to pull the trans from the bottom. Get a fresh clutch and resurface the flywheel while you have it out. I just replaced mine from almost 10 years ago when we put the h55 in. Wish we were closer would come and help. You coming to expo east this year

Thanks for the advice Matt! I hope to tinker with this engine before the snow starts since I only have the carport. I'll store it in the one of the garages over the winter.

Yes! We'll be there. Going to visit a number of new places before and after the show! It's always an adventure in our ATC traveling roadshow! Come by the booth for a cold one.

Haven't played with it in close to 5 years but, pulled it out of storage, fired right up, washed and waxed it, drove it around the mountains for a while and put it back to bed. Hope to use it more once I swap out the motor....next yearish......or when the shop is doneish.

A diesel swap would make it even better, Toyota or Cummins.
