stepping up to 255's and the choices are slim pickins!!!

daily driver with mostly paved road/highway miles
we get a good amount of snow up here so thats my main concern

I can get toyo m55 for $1500 or BFG MT's for $1250 or Cooper disco ATs for $1000

anyone have any experience with any of these tires in snowier areas? are the toyo's the best bang for the buck?

No personal experience with that size but I personally have not found MT's to be best choice for snow. AT's are usually better especially when you couple with mostly paved highway miles

If I were looking for Toyos in a 255/85r16, I'd be looking at the Open Country MTs
before the M-55s.

Just my 2 cents. I Have the 33x10.5r15 OC MTs and they've worn like iron.

EDIT: Having said that though, they aren't the best choice for snow or road noise ;)

I used to have BFG MT 255/85R16 : Good
Now I have Toyo MT 255/85R16 : Very good

If I could pick it up locally, I would go (next time) with Cooper ST Maxx in 255/85R16

I have M-55s on my '75 FJ40. Love 'em, especially in the snow here in Idaho. Can easily top 75mph in the '40 and these tires are nothing bu stellar.

Had the same size 255/85R16 on my '95 F350 crewcab. Very good in snow as well. Went thru one set on the F350, about 30K miles. Need to keep the tire inflation as low as practical/possible, as they wore pretty fast in the middle of the tread. Second set was moved to my son's 1999 F250 when I sold the '95.

Pick up a set of 285/85R16s for my "new" 2000 F250 and ran them this winter, ... same great performance in the snow.

Spendy, but I wouldn't hesitate to get another set. Best tire I've ever owned.

Good luck!
