Go to PEP BOYZ auto parts

this brand HILLMAN has some unique stuff , including METRIC speed nutz , they matched the old ones and fit like a glove

on my 1983 FJ43L-KC

i sourced the exact finish V head screws at home depot in stainless steel for like $1.25 pack of 4 , the speed nutz were like
4$ 2 pack , pep boyz must know what they have ?

Use a sharp point pick or awl to remove the excess paint before you try any tools.

x2 on removing paint before removing the screws.

If you do strip them out, get a square drive bit and hammer it into the screw as hard as you can. It might help to drill a little bit to help get it seated. Then get a ratchet with a socket that the bit fits into, push down hard on the ratchet head and break them loose. Soak them in penetrating oil before you start too.

This method has gotten even the hardest and most stripped screws out for me.

Here's a picture of the bit I'm talking about.

thanks for all the suggestions.

Probably JIS screw head not phillips. That piece of tin will be distorted after beating on the screws with a impact driver. Clean the paint out and use a JIS screwdriver.

I used easy out

2nd on most likely JIS screw. Going to work on Toyota’s the JIS screwdriver is a must have!
