I have an ARB tire inflator, for the most part it's fine. However one annoying aspect is that the clip that connects the hose to the valve stem nearly always leaks. My previous solution was to press the clip onto the valve stem with one hand, and hold the inflator in the other hand.

I discovered you can purchase better clips. Much better. I found one at Extreme Outback products.

Product : Extreme Outback

Then I also decided to lengthen the hose on the inflator, so I can stand (if I wish) while airing up the tires. Here are some pics of the parts I used. Pretty easy mod once you scrounge all the parts, much easier to air up tires.

In this first set of three pics you can see the ARB inflator, the cheezy clip that always leaks, and where I removed the hose/clip from the inflator body.

In these next three pics you can see the main parts I used. The adaptor which screws to the ARB inflator body and has a compression fit to the air hose I used, plus a nice pic of the beefy brass clip I got from extreme outback.

Finally, here are pics of the finished product. Works great.

I have a pressure switch and tank on my OBA system so I prefer a non-open valve (so that the tank can continue to pressurize as I move from tyre to tyre).

I also have a nice clip - Milton S697, very nice product. Similar straight on style as in your link.

cheers,
george.

I have a puma w tank.

I went to Milton's web site to purchase their S697 air chuck, but I see it says "Not for use with an inflator gauge." Any idea why?

I'm guessing they don't want the gauge to overpressure if the chuck is 'closed'. I can't see it being a problem if you have a pressure switch on the compressor to cut it off at a pressure below the gauge maximum.

On my OBA setups I chose nominal 90/120 psi cutoff switches. But then I don't have an inline gauge.

Unless there's some other reason...

cheers,
george.

Looks like you fixed the same things that are bugging me. I might have to do this too. Thanks Doug!

I don't see where the adapter went in?. It looks like you put airhose disco on both ends?

Having a chuck that sticks on and doesnt leak, and a gauge/valve long with enough tubing between them so you don't have to bend down while you fill 4 big tires is a huge benefit once you've done it a few times.

My chuck doesnt hold very well and leaks a little bit, I may do a similar mod.

I put the disconnect only on the end towards the tire. The other end uses the pictured adaptor (threaded + compression fitting) to connect to the body of the ARB inflator.

Yeah my ARB inflator was junk too. Leaked air while inflating (from the base and silver hose that comes out of the unit), gauge went out of wack after like 3 uses.
After reading some amazon reviews I went with the Milton S506 inflator and it has worked flawless. Wished it had a clip on chuck and deflating button like the arb though.

There is a Milton model with a deflate button. Not sure how it would compare to the ARB for speed though. Love my Milton. The hose is like 5 feet long too.

No sir. This one's what I was thinking of, (model 518) but there seem to be a lot of models with subtle differences.
Made in USA, rebuildable, parts available, high quality.
I got mine on eBay for a nice price.

I put a quick connector on the output also, so I can use it to seat tubeless bike tires.

Blew a tire off and started looking for a way to control the process, found the Milton's.
I cut the hose shorter and got a presta Chuck I can lock on a coreless strem. Works great. Only done that with a home-based compressor though.
The inflator is solid machined aluminum, old school quality.
