New guy here. Been looking for a 55 for some time now, figured I'd drop a line in here. I'm looking for one in great condition, i.e. zero rust. Paint can be in any condition, but overall I'm looking for a solid ride as a regular driver and something smog exempt in California.

Let me know,

Thanks!

-Stuart

In the process of buying this, extremely little rust.

how much

I've decided to pass on this vehicle. This was advertised as a frame on restore, it's nothing but a respray and a fairly poorly done interior. it looks nice from 10-20 feet, get up close and the work that was done is not great.

The good:

- The body for what it is is in great shape, no bondo, minimal rust in the doors, undercarriage is great.
- 1F engine was rebuilt, not sure to what extent. All runs smoothly and drives acceptably.

The bad: - finish work, again, this was supposed to be a restore....

- RH rear window is off track - no biggie
- All door ash trays are missing
- RH front door hangs when opened - bad hinge?
- RH front door weatherstripping felt is missing, all others were painted...
- RH rear turn light is dim and brake light doesn't work.
- Speedo doesn't work
- Gas gauge doesn't work
- Horn doesn't work
- No heater blower
- Rear license plate lights are missing
- Rear fold down seat is missing a hinge.
- No power steering
- Drum brakes - they work fine though

They were asking $39k, I offered 33. After seeing all the pics I got today from the inspector my opinion of the vehicle has changed and I don't think it's worth any more than $26k-28, but I doubt they'll accept an offer that low. I wish I could share the pics, but I cant.

If you want to PM me your email I'll forward it along letting them know you're interested.

That's a lot money; I'd have had to say you were nitpicking until I saw the price. For that kind of money it ought be damn nice. Having said that, every land cruiser I've ever bought needed something, and most needed a lot of tlc. Once people have had their hands on these old trucks nothing should be surprising.

When you're claiming its a restore and asking 39k, it better be perfect, its nowhere close. I got an email from him this morning saying some stuff would be fixed and some not. They were still willing to entertain my offer but think 'they can get more'. Furthermore, a fresh interior should be complete, not have gaps around the door handles and not have tears, loose threads, unfinished work. There were areas I saw that could have used some TLC before painting as well. Screws were stripped installing the tailgate.

Its a flip, not a restore. There is no care or pride in workmanship. And for $39k it better have disc brakes and a V8.

It worth 20k my thoughts. I will pay m 30 plus for a 79 and above fully restored to factory condition. Early models are tough sell in this market.

I know for a fact from cutting open a few different fj55 that didn't look too bad on the outside that if they didn't pop those rockers and take care of every bit of rust there's rust issues all up in that thing
