Looking for any quirks, bugs or oddities that i should be aware of. About to pull the trigger on a 2004 LC with 24k miles (CPO). A few questions that i have about the vehicle that i will be asking the dealer tomorrow are:

- Why new tires after only 24k miles
- why no factory warranty (only 3k/3 month CPO warranty)
- I want maintenance records
- I want to test out the DVD entert. system/navigation
- there is one small ding and one small scratch that they have agreed to fix
- obtain $ on extended warranty (will also check my allstate agent - last one purchased was fairly cheap compared to dealer)
- any recalls?
- has the NAV system been updated with most current DVD?

Anything else i should be asking? Thanks.

Just bought the same year with 16K miles. The vehicle is awesome and I am unaware of any recalls. Nav., DVD, etc. all work well.

The lack of a factory warranty would bother me. Aren't all toyotas at least covered for 3 yr/36K mi? Isn't the DVD nav separate from entertainment? It is on the LX (there are two separate DVD systems, one is nav [in dash], one is rear entertainment w/ a monitor that flips down from the ceiling [factory] or headrest monitors [not factory]).

Make sure the extended warranty covers stuff like exhaust manifolds, starters, master cylinder electric pump, and TPS. These are about they only things that have gone wrong with older LC's.

I'm assuming they told you there is no factory warranty? The only way that is possible is it was originally sold in 1/03 or earlier, which I guess is possible, but seems unlikely. Is there any chance they're just telling you there's no factory warranty so you'll buy the extended (we are talking about a car dealership after all)? Toyota's national customer service number should be able to provide you with the inservice date (they'll need the VIN)...

Since its a CPO, then the warranty starts from when you buy it (at 24k miles). In your case, your warranty will be good for till 2/2009 or 60k miles. No?

That dealerhship is full o' crap. You should be fine up to 36 mos or 36K miles - key is to figure out in-service date - which should be a minimum of Aug. or Sept. 03 I would think. Call the 1-800 Toyota # and verify.

Just a guess, but rule it out.

Could this be a salvaged vehicle? I'd guess that a vehicle that's been salvaged might not be under factory warranty. Be sure to check the carfax report and make sure this isn't the case.

What is the most current version of Nav DVD?

The 3 year /36,000 mile is bumper to bumper, the power train was 5 year /60,000 miles but it might be longer now? On a CPO there is a 7 year from date first in service/ 100,000 mile power train for warranty. They extended from six years to seven years in 2005.

There is the remaining factory warranty and it is CPO so the powertrain is 7yr 100k. They have fixed both scratches (one was pretty deep and now you cant tell either was ever there). The nav system needed a TSB and they have fixed it. They are quoting me $995 for the extended 7r 100k warranty (Toyota Platinum). Got the word on my financials today so i am probably picking this car up tomorrow. How much are the Nav DVD's and where can i tell what the version is?

Extended warranty sounds like a good price if it is really underwritten by Toyota Financial Services. Many dealerships will try to charge about $2K for it and may use a non-TFS warranty. You can check the Toyota or Lexus web sites, go to financial services, CPO or Extended Warranties, and check the relative list pricing. From the other things you mention, it look sliek the dealership is treating you well.

I would not worry about the tire change. Many have complained about the OEM Dunlop tires durability on tire sites. I take my vehicles to a trusted alignment person - 4 wheel align when I buy one. Even with the Dunlops, I had over 60K on them on my LC before I traded it in (that was not smart) - with plenty of tread left. I get an alignment with each new set of tires also.

It is difficult to tell the difference in the way an LC drives whether it has 20K, 40K or 60K. Outside of tire tread depth difference, the ride is essentially the same. They age very gracefully.

There is a new DVD out, but I doubt many update. I do not recall seeing one that was updated in all my searching for LC/LX last year (trying to undo the mistake I made trading in the LC).

buy it, sounds like a good one. whats the price

$45,500 and I am handing them the keys to my 2005 Acura TL w/25k miles. I owe exactly $27, 251 on it and they are paying it off completely. After all is said and done, the cash from the sale from a house nets me $46,500. Almost enough to cover the taxes as well. Going to feel real nice to own a sweet LC free and clear.

You will love the LC and it will feel like new for the next 10 years if you want to drive it that long. There is not another vehicle made that is built any better at any price and the materials that they use in the LC are the highest quality and made to last.

Enjoy
