Starting to think about a Durabak project. Wondering if the the "smooth" variety would look good on the flares. Anyone have any experience with this version?

No experience, but i wonder if it would work well on sliders.

I tried to get a sample back when I did my truck and they sent me a green painted square when I asked for a gray smooth Durabak sample. The green one they sent me was glossy and would scratch-up IMHO. Not even sure what it was. So I just went for the Stucco like Durabak. It is probably the most textured out of all the liners but it was the cheepest gray option I could get at the time.

rough is tough..........smooth is....well........like my ballsac......you wouldnt want your fenders lookin like my ballsac:D

actually ive seen the smooth and its not bad- i cant seem to locate any pics tho on fenders

oh definitely go with the durabak UV. I have had good success with the UV on the roof for years and when i did my fenders had some leftover to top off the roof again.....and the new coat was surprisingly not too much darker than the 2yr old IV baked stuff. If anything the UV will add to the longevity if fading isnt a primary concern for you.

So does your smooth ballsac slide of branches and tree easier? :flipoff2:

I'm wonderin' rough Durabak on the rockers and lower doors, with the smooth ballsac version on the fender flares. Black, UV for both. Thinking maybe the smooth would look nicer on the flares. Might look like poo if brushed or rolled on, though.

Thoughts?

I went thru this same debate in '06 when I did my roof and flares. Whet rough and 4 years later it's holding up great. Smooth would remind me of Taco flares.

I did mine with Duplicolor's bedliner, which is smooth.

I personally like smooth over rough. Wasn't very expensive either.

More pics.

How long ago did you do the Duplicolor? How is it holding up?

So it's been a year and a half.

It's holding up great. I just lightly sanded it, didn't even knock off all the clear coat. Along the edges there are a few spots where some of it has come off, due to me not getting the clear coat rough enough, not getting enough bed liner on (applied too thin), or most likely both.

I didn't really do the best prep job on it, so I'm rather pleased at how well it's held up with the half arsed prep job I did.

It lightened up significantly from that picture, ended up being very close to the same color as the stock body cladding color. Most people don't even realize I haven't finished lining the whole thing yet....

After the initial color change (within a few months) it hasn't changed any since, so I don't think it's going to fade any further. Still looks great IMHO.
