^ TM: I couldn't get my rear hard lines unthreaded from the "T"...doubtful on his given the rust we see.
 
That panhard bracket is one decent bump away from breaking off the axle housing. Very dangerous to say the very least.
 
You need an axle housing.

Presuming 1998 100 with factory lock there is ONE new housing in the United States. 42110-60630, published list price $1,698.94. That is a bare housing only.
 
Quite frankly if that housing is indicative of the general condtion of the chassis you may be better-served removing the radiator cap and driving another truck under it......

Took me a while, but man, I have to use this one in the future for some of the buckets we see come into the shop.

Sorry to say it but that's very unsafe. Might want to consider a replacement quick!

The last time I saw rust that bad was on a front end loader that worked in four feet of cement slurry for over two years. Rusted right through the axle housing and broke in half.
 
I wouldn't be surprised.
