Yep. No driving it there either. And good hell I thought Utah rust was bad. Man.
They have rust in Utah? A buddy of mine in SLC has been driving the same Honda Accord since 1990. Still looks like new and he has over 300k on that gutless wonder.

I have to call BS on that one. I'm a Salt Lake native and I left to get away from the destructive winter climate.

I was up there December 2013 for one week and I collected more chassis rust on my 93 FZJ80 than all of its previous 20 years in New Mexico.

He's lived in Ogden Canyon his entire life. Same car since he graduated from college. You guys out west may be a little overly sensitive to rust. My buddies next door neighbor has an old Jeep pickup from the 70s, faded paint and all. No rust on that one either.

Not to get chatty in tech, but we have this great big lake - all salt. Great resource for the state to use on the roads in winter. Most all of the mountain states around here use sand in the winter, but not Utah. My 100 has some scaly rust on the frame, a few bolts in the suspension have been a real PITA, and my aftermarket hitch is a rusty mess. It's been in SLC it's whole life too. I take it to the coin op wash with the high pressure wands a few times each winter just to hit the underside.

Quite frankly if that housing is indicative of the general condtion of the chassis you may be better-served removing the radiator cap and driving another truck under it......

Haha, I just used this at work today! Twice!

Every shop I have ever worked in this was the comment I used whenever whoever was in the stall next to me got a comeback!!!

That brake line is broken because of the lateral movement of the axle caused by the disintegrated panhard mount. It even looks like the brake line below it has been sliding back-and-forth in the rubber grommet from the side-to-side movement of the axle. You'll have to replace the axle with a new or used one, or find a good welder to fab up a solid mount, replace the brake line, do a full bleed, and you'll be set. Man I thought my truck was rusty- good luck

Yeah the rust is pretty ridiculous. I am jealous of others who don't have these issues. Makes it completely impossible to keep a rig nice and clean. The rest of my truck looks pretty good minus the rust.

I definitely need to get that mount fixed before replacing the brake line. I was about to put the new brake line on and try to find a welder but I think that may be an exercise in futility.

Anyone have a good picture of one not in such despair as mine?

My fabricator wants to see what it should look like. Though my rust and cracks do look pretty good.

Thanks so much.

Bulldog, for your safety, if your fab guy has your truck on a lift, take more
Pictures of your underside and post them. You might have more issues under there.

Ok I will try to. So hard to work out when he will be working on it and I work nights. It might be like getting the moon and stars to align.

I feel your pain. I just did a body off frame job to replace the brake lines on my 02 Tahoe. Lived outside it's entire life and it's under carriage looked just like yours, with one exception. The brake lines on yours are pristine compared to the ones that popped on my Hoe. I'd say it's highly unlikely the line ruptured due to rust. Completely related to unwanted flex IMHO.

I can't stand the rust. I love all my vehicles and work so hard at keeping them well maintained but the rust always creeps in.

When I popped the tire at first I expected to see a rusted through brake line. When I saw how good (relatively speaking) they looked, I knew that it was the axle moving around.

Gotta get both sides done. What do you think so far?

It all looks a little rusty, but nothing compared to that first pic you posted!
