Anyone painted their roof white??

I know it's "cliche' ", but I think it's kinda cool looking on the dark 60's and 62's. Anyone w/ a dark 80 got a white roof? I'm getting some paint work done on the 80 this summer, and figured while it's in there I might get the roofrack holes welded shut and the roof painted white if it would look good.

I've thought of doing it to my champagne LC in Queensland, as part of a "beat the heat" campaign. It gets hot here. I don't think it would win any fashion awards, though.

Also planning on painting my hood, or at least the skirt between the windshield and the hood, flat black to reduce glare. That would really look patchwork with a white roof.

White does have a cooling effect because it reflects, but only for as long as you can keep it clean and lily white. If you live in or travel through dusty places, you'll find it need as much work as black keeping your ride looking clean. A white roof is bound to show dust and dirt more than other colors.

Um - nope. White and silver are the easiest colors to keep - they look decent even when dirty. I've got a white roof on my 80 Ary - came with the rest of a white rig But really, it helps alot in the Texas sun -

The factory painted mine white. I'll never have a daily driver another color given the choice. I don't wash it for months at a time and it looks good. I wash my black bike, and it looks dirty before I'm done. No color hides dirt like white.

Me...with the white rig...I have considered (damn you T Y L E R for planting the seed!) throwing some line-x on the roof after removing the OEM rack. Aside from the issues with heat (it gets very hot here in the summer) and that my rig will then look a lot like an Orca (black top, white middle, black bottom), I think it would be cool to do.

It could look okay having white on top of a dark rig, but I'd ask someone to help with some photoshop first -- that way you'd have an idea of how it would look in real life vs. what you have pictured in your mind.

The 80 has 55 lines, so I'd go for white above the belt line up to the roof... below the belt and the roof would be same color. JMO

Ahhh yes, but once you go black...

I kinda like the idea of the Orca look.
Not sure what I'll do, if anything -- I need to see how the roof rack holes look and if I really need any kind of bodywork/repainting before I decide.

When I rattle can'd my 60 black, I did the roof white. It did help keep the inside temps down, along with the window tinting I did at the same time.

You can get white Line-X if you don't want to go black...

From what I understand, white Line-X turns yellowish after a while, but that's just from what I've read. LineX is the way to go.
