Ne1 Portland Oregon can test drive my new FJ80? PICS! 56k beware

Heya, Just picked up a 91 FJ80 170k, this is my 1st land cruiser.. experiencing what i beleive to be "flairing" from the responses i've gotten and what i've read on here the last couple of nights. when driving seems 2nd to 3rd gear shift rpms raise 500-1000 before transmission kicks down into lower gear, this is at around 15-20mph with slight throttle 1/3 maybe, it revs up for a second or two before it shifts..

Was wondering if there's anyone local here near portland area, that could take my cruiser for a spin to see if it runs like it should? I'm in beaverton off 185th

Or if anyone has good mechanic recomendations locally here that would be familiar with the kick down adjustment cable. Would like to get it adjusted correctly.

thanks a ton!

Do transmission flush first. It might help. Check in the FAQ

Or, just do drain and flush for a few times if you don't want to do full flush like FAQ.

You don't want to do it yourself?

It's as easy as adjusting hand brakes on a bicycle, and you can't really screw it up. When I adjusted mine, I fiddled with it over a period of a few days till the tranny shifted exactly when/how I wanted. I just kept a couple crescent wrenches in the cab and would pop the hood and re-adjust while doing errands; in the parking lot of the grocery store, wherever.

Download the FSM, or even just go down to the auto parts store and pick up a Haynes manual.

Plus, we'll help you.:)

Have W at Over The Hill 4x4 look over the FJ80 for you if you are not comfortable doing it. They are a Land Cruiser only shop and they really know their mechanics and will be able to help you figure out if anything is wrong. He is located at St. Johns in N. Portland.

Are those the original flares? They look like the larger newer ones around the wheel wells. I couldn't tell if it has rear disc brakes or I'd speculate it's newer - heh.. Also, did he include the front bumper top chrome strip in case you want to put it back to stock and cover the holes.

Standard repairs anyone can do. But drivability techs are very hard to find.

I have a guy here in SE/gladstone that is the best drivability tech around.

I will PM you my contact info

I'm with Doug, are you sure you don't have a 93 or newer? You have the wider flares, as well as the factory tinted windows which didn't come along until 93. You can tell if you press on the gas pedal and you actually move, you have the 1FZFE from a 93+ :D j/k But really, what does the vin plate on the door/jamb say?

I would to do the work myself, but I am in no way mechanically inclined:) wouldn't mind linking up with a local mudder for some onhands experience with the kickdown adjustments...

Its a 91, has rear drum brakes, and 3fe cuz when I stomp on the pedal it feels like 0-60 in 1.5years lol but that's fine with me I didn't buy it to drag race on the strip u know? main thing I would to cure is the rev up between shift flairing issue.. motor purrs and is a smooth ride..

as for the flares they may be off a 93, they've been painted white as I can see red underneat where its got some chips in the paint...

also has center diff lock button on dash and no overdrive button on shifter which means its a 91 right?

thanks for all the help, what a bunch of cool guys u are!1

You have a pm. Be glad to help out, the rivers are blown this weekend, anyway.
