Took the 200 yesterday to a trail and going on a dirt road my upper ball joint from the SPC UCA decided she what to ruin the day
The ball came out the sucker clean leaving me stranded and paying $900 for a móvil mechanic to press that ball join back in. I was able to make back to the hotel waiting for tomorrow for the part to arrive. Now the truck has abs, traction control and pre collision and stability control light blinking. And one around here that can help me with a light stream scan? To erase this light before I depart to Virginia? The upper control arm is only 60 day old

If your upper ball joint separated it likely disconnected or damaged the wheel speed sensor. You can buy them both separately depending what is damaged

Hopefully an easy fix. I would hit up @cruiseroutfit which is only a few hours away.

Good luck

Took the wire out check for damage. One of the wire got pinched with the UCA probably causing a ground. I when back and insulated. I think the problem is my steering sensor detected my tire going in the wrong direction for just few feet.

Hopefully the auto part get the ball joint tomorrow. Going to try finding an alignment shop here I can only imagine how much they want. Otherwise truck still drive straight going to try getting to New Mexico Sunday and find a Toyota dealer there

Also you wouldn’t need techstream. Those are standard OBD errors. Any Bluetooth obd dongle or code reader would work but I suspect you have an actual issue.
I think autozone will check stuff. I have a scan capable of doing everything on the truck at home. I just want some peace of mind in my 2500 miles journey

Yes I when and open that some of the insulation came off but the wire is intact. I think the computer read a error now I need to erase

Let me save you some trouble: Replace the sensor wire. The sensor wire is shielded and if it is damaged in any way it can’t be repaired to work reliably.

Once you replace it with a new one the code will clear after you drive it.

Not here to victim blame but I am curious what was going on right before the ball joint decided to leave the control arm. Is this a part defect or crazy act of god type of thing?

So apparently you will be buying an aftermarket ball joint from the auto parts store. What will you be buying at the Toyota dealer-sensor wire?

SPC's get mixed reviews online. Some of their ball joints last a good long time, others fail fairly quickly.

Wow, that's impressive, freak accident. Best of luck, bud. Stay safe

Bummed and hate to see this happen. Trying to understand how a ball join even fails like that. From what I can tell, this looks to be an SPC manufacturing defect rather than any install or use error. Wouldn't be the first time hearing of an SPC ball joint fail.

I believe their new style join is maintenance free without a zerk fitting. Is this the old or new style?

Mine from October 2024 look like this ⬆️ it looks like an oem style joint

Ouch, unusual failure. If happens to anybody else on the trail, a Hi-Lift Extreme jack can be used as a press tool to get the ball back into the socket.
