Anyone has installed an aftermarket rear camera on their car?

One of my co-workers installed on on his truck. He cannot back up to safely without hitting something.

He went with JC Whitney # GAC 298792 $99.99 and likes it a lot. It is a VR3 and has a color monitor.

There was someone from Canada that installed them under his rig so he could watch his suspension and axles rub the rocks.

I installed an eclipse nav system in my 80. One of the options was the backup cam. I like it because I will tow wit this rig and it makes backing up to the trailer easier, and it allows me to watch the trailer and contents while towing. I find that is all I really use it for, I can backup just fine with mirrors. HTH

Search the 80's section, I think there are a couple

Work great - Costco - Cheap - Easy - Useful

I put one on my rear axle, so I can see the underside of my truck.

They installed one on a van here at work. The Vr3 I think. Looked pretty cool.
This last weekend Costco had a blowout on their last 1/2 dozen. Picked up a couple for a cool $49 each. Have to figure out where I want to mount it now.

Can any of these various "back up camera's" be wired so the video can be transfered onto a dvd or some such device?

x2, especially the wireless type...

I've done a lot with surveillance systems. That said, probably the best way to record stuff in the application you are talking about is to use a camcorder with an external video input. Works great!

This is the way my system works. My camera system has a vga output to a 7" touch screen which I will hook up to a onboard computer as well. It also has rca output to record via in-line recording on my camcorder.

I just need to figure out how to record sound?

I have the Costco Unit in my 80. Works well. I mostly use it for backing up to hook onto the trailer. It is very handy for that.
