I have a BJ74 and have noticed its distinct lack of cup holders, has anyone fitted some to their 70 series and if so where ?

I think we have discussed this here previously.

Open your glove box. Note the two round indentations? Place cups. Drive up nearest large hill bumping every rock possible. Note cup holders do not work as well as your average town car. Why is this so?

Real cruiser drivers wheel and hold cup at same time?? Where I live it is legal to drive with open container, so cup holders arent big (Northern Territory Australia)

No but anyway, there is a post with some pretty good suggestions other than mine

Chris

Aren't discussions about cup holders supposed to be limited to the FJ Cruiser and 100 series forums?

 grumpy bastard...where the hell am I going to put my Latte when I'm getting my chrome buffed I ask you...

Best part about the dents in the glovebox door is that they're specially designed to only spill boiling coffee on the passengers lap, which I think is a major plus.

I've been contemplating folding up an aluminum box to go between the shifters and the console with a couple of cupholder dents, but havent' got around to it yet.

cheers,

Down beside my handbreak is 2 holders they hold cans and other such drinks perfectly!!
I can even drive with them.

For me it was a very real issue of storage space, the glove box dosen't hold very much and with cell phones, chargers gps, cd's, 2 younger kids who are always thirsty, a 6 mth old lab that gets into everything when you're not looking, and even when the kids are looking, and a wife who brings everything except what is actually needed, I was surrounded in clutter, I didn't want to put stuff in the back and have to pull over when somebody needed something, I got an aftermarket consol, pulled the bottom up on the upholstered part, cut about 5 inches along the bottom, cut off in front of the front cup holders, reused the bottom, stapled and glued everything back together, made a quick aluminum frame on the bottom, took the door off the stock consol drilled 4 holes and bolted it down with some 10/32's. I cut a hole where the stock tray sits, just in case I ever had to get at the rear heater, cut about 1inch out of the tray center, duct taped (Iknow) the tray back together so nothing falls on top of the heater, works great, perfect height for an arm rest while driving, and as a bonus 4 beverage holders dosen't interfer with shifting, is solid & the kids can easily get around it, the only chore is operating the rear heater when you're alone and driving but it's not impossible.

for those of you that didn't know:
the rake on the dash pod is the perfect angle to hold a timmies brew (or similar) on all but the most extreme cornering and incline approaches. i have used this for decades now. if in doubt then install those shallow cup holders with velcro and you are golden.

John, you need to add 80 series to your list. those cry babies whine about everything.

Capital guy, you can actually fit 2 kids in your BJ74 rear seat? wow!! they must hate you or did you relocate the rear seat location?

No didn't move the seats. The kids are still on the small side, 8 & 10, and like the LC because they can see better out the windows than the wife's minivan or my pickup, never complain about leg room...yet, they get a kick when I take some of the old abandoned bush roads around the cottage and the branches scrape past the windows, we park and walk through the bush, we initiated our new dog this past Sunday at the cottage, she replaced our 15 year old lab we had to put down a few months ago, it's really a nice relaxing way to spend a day with the family. The cottage isn't winterizied so we only do day trips for now

So, back to cupholders: Since the nearest Timmies is an hour away, I can't use Wayne's method so I make my own coffee. A short piece of suitably sized plastic pipe, a couple of magnets and a little block of wood. Should be easy to figure out from the picture. Still manage to spill coffee all over the dash so the next mod will probably be better suspension...

pics of mine, lack of carpet might work better for this design? It really sits nice like this...

Since the Swamp Donkeys have adopted a 'no cupholder' rule I maintain that these are merely square receptacles.

I use Cup Holders from RAM Mount, ordered from GPS City!
