Hi guys, I have a '74 FJ40, and as you know the vent box in front of the windshield doesn't do anything but drain water through the floor via rubber hoses, has anyone come up with clever use for this space?

 I attached a long hose to one of the drain nipples, closed off the other one, filled the cavity with my favorite medical uh... herbal remedy, rigged up a remote lighter and enjoy the ride! :steer:

I just shut the vent when I've had enough which puts out the, uh...., vent bowl... Edit: You can leave it cracked if you want to share with fellow passengers...

You asked... :grinpimp:

Fine print: This post in no way reflects mine, or any MUD members, life style unless stated otherwise...YMMV

LOL,..at first I was buying it,..but seriously, there must be something you could put in there, if you had a hinged lid?

I guess you could carry a spare winch control in there if it was small enough and if you could seal the lid. If you put a cable release (like a small hood release) on it and hide the knob under the dash, it would be a pretty cool place to store your wallet, keys and cell phone when you're at the beach with the top and doors off. Damn it. Why did you have to bring this up? Now I'm going to spend the whole day dreaming up uses for this space...

I thought it would be a good place for a large first aid kit and/or tool kit. It's something you wouldn't need to get to often. You could weld sheet metal over the vent holes and put a key lock like on a tuffy console.

It's also big enough to hold a couple quarts of fliuds and since they're in bottles, you wouldn't even need to seal up the top.

When i first got my truck, mine was being used to fertilize the rust inside my cab with rainwater. It would be cool to use it as an air intake, although that would require a fair ammount of fab work

These are about $65:

These are $25 for a pair. You could put one on each side and it would be very secure:

Install an external speaker for your CB? A marine speaker, of course.:hhmm:

Install a small propane burner at the bottom of the box and use the vent grate to grill steaks!

Along this line of thinking, would be cool (or hot) to route some engine compartment hot air into it for cooking or warming up some trail food or long road trip burritos.

Hinged the lid and have two small aux. Lights pop up. Good extra trail lights. When your done just close the lid. Hideaqay lights

Yea,..on early 40's you pulled a lever and outside air came in,..on mine there is no flap, just a covered hole.

Ah, I see. Mine works, so I was scratching my head over that.
