After the rocky section it opens up into a typical for the area, washed out road.

Look, a lake! Once we got this far we had a couple of choices, go back the way we came or out power line road , we decided on power line, ran it in the dark.

Kevin,

Thanks for the pictures. Fullsize GM trucks don't levitate, quite to the contrary :frown:. If they would, the big blue one might climb a little easier. Again, thanks to Spike and to you for helping me get through. It was fun, though, to introduce Spike to the intricacies and shortcomings of the GM push-pull steering system...

By the way, driving that Powerline Road in the dark and at that speed (what was it, 2:45 hours to blacktop?) took quite a toll. I was still tired 3 days afterward or so. Under more leisurely circumstances I probably would have driven at about half the speed.

And I'm convinced it was easier to drive those offcamber sections in the dark. That way, no one knew how far down it would have been...
My underbody lights really helped a lot on this part (that and the fact I had walked the section twice).

My main concern, however, was not the offcamber sections. The thoughts in my head were more along the line of "Please, please, I don't want to cut a tire down NOW, I so don't want to change tires, not at this hour by the side of the mountain..."

For some reason I'm unhappy with most of my pictures. I need to look seriously into getting an SLR camera again.

Found a few more, first two from Turkey Creek - look, it growed horns!, then from the rock garden in Log Corral

Well, the 40 did levitate.

Yes, numerous times. Intended as well as unintended, and unanticipated. It was cool to look at the place where the front tire tracks just stopped, and resumed 1 foot further to the left :D.

Being tailgunner is better for my nerves, actually. That way, I don't get to see ALL the things this '40 does

Kevin spoke the memorable words: "I never knew a 2F could do that..."

yeah, I sometimes wonder about the lines it takes, too :p ;)

anyone have the GPS Cords or a topo of that trip?? would be a fun day with the family

anyone know if telegraph is open again? I have been itching to do that ever since it closed after the fires.

You must have a tolerant family. :D Log Corral is fairly rough, and FR393 AKA Powerline has some spots that can make you nervous. Powerline would be a great in-and-out from the Sunflower Mine side, there's some really neat rock formations and beautiful views, and the scary stuff is towards the Bartlet Lake end so you could stop and go back if you wanted. Although you might be hard-pressed to find room for a U-turn.

If you wanted to do both, start early- it's a long trip. I'd want to hit the trailhead before 8 AM if I did it again.

Rob,

I posted a list of the open trails in the Tonto Forest trails thread. You'll have to check the # on Telegraph but for some reason I think that's #42 which is closed. I could be wrong on that number though.

That's not a complete list for all of Tonto, maybe just one ranger district? I don't see any of the popular trails off of Beeline.

I bet that Telegraph/FR42 will never reopen, hope that I'm wrong.

You're right Kevin that was just the list of the trails in the district surrounding FR42
