Hi all,

My buddy's shop installed my Dob VTT setup but doesn't want anything to do with customization beyond that. He had some concerns that when flexed out I might need ABS wiring extended and maybe some sway bar clearance issues and told me to take it easy. I spent a week rallying in the Coos Bay dunes and felt like I had to baby it a little, so I want to find somewhere with a second opinion / ramp / lift that can help me ID any trouble areas.

Thanks!

What size lift? I have Dobbi 2.5" and no issues with ABS wires.

I did put extended brake lines, front/rear sway bar drops and extended the breather tubes. I also dropped the rear parking brake mount. Did you do any castor correction?

I'm not a shop but I am in Tri-Cities and always down to talk about Land Cruisers :)

There is a Land Cruiser shop over in Sandpoint, I have heard good things but I think they might be pretty expensive.

Hey! I did the 2.5-3.5 kit and already had extended braided brake lines, beefed up sway bars with drops from my OME lift. This sits pretty close to the same height as that was with heavies. I don't think I ever did a parking breake relocate. (I've had this thing for 18 years...)

I was surprised he said that the ABS wiring and spring popping out was a concern. I know the VTT's with the MRR long travel shocks can droop about 19 inches, so I figured that was just part of the deal with going longer travel.

He's pretty conservative with things though, I wonder if he was being overly CYA about it.

I did the Slee plates years ago after playing with just the bushings for castor. I was in spec on the rack, but it was SUPER 'darty', the plates made a HUGE difference. I've toyed with doing control arms at some point, I'm just sure I'll ever go higher. I like the lower center of gravity for dunes, which is mostly what I like to do. Being triple locked and turbo'd it fun keeping up with some of my buddies with built SxS's :-) I'm about to put new wheels on it this week and am upping it from 33's to 34's.

I hit the Tri-Cities a few times a year, I'll have to hit you up if I bring her down there!

Oh interesting, I'm in Sandpoint ALL of the time, I'll have to see if I can figure out which one it is.

Some pics just for fun.

Just curious if this sway bay spacing / ends / brake extensions look similar?

The front sway bar looks like it has spacer blocks. That's the same way mine is done. The rear does not look like it's dropped. My lift kit did not come with rear sway bar adjustment, I added the extended HD links from LandTank. Landcruiser Phil also sells some nice ones.

I have not had issues with the coil springs popping out. I think with the factory suspension design your flex limits out due to the links or control arms way before the spring fully extends. You can kind of see in my avatar that my driver rear wheel is dropped as far as it will go and the spring still didn't come loose. I've even been fully flexed out without a sway bar (it got ripped off one trip) and no issues with springs. Springs coming out could be an issue if you went to a 3-link in front and/or redesigned the rear geometry. If you are concernd about it I think Delta Vehicle Systems sells spring retainers.

In your pics you can also see why the ABS lines aren't an issue. They are routed on or parallel to the links/control arms so they move as far as those move without stretching.
