An FJ43 Icon is going for a crazy price on EBAY. What I am interested in is the fold out steps on the rig. Anyone know if they are custom or aftermarket in design? My wife would like to ride in my rig a bit more if she didn't need to climb up into it. If the steps fold under the rig, I could keep them on unless I am doing difficult trails.

Why not just carry a cheap-ass stepstool for her? Hell, just toss it in the back on the trail. Or even a military ammo can that can do double-duty. Just a thought.

Here's one. Kinda short, but I'm sure there are taller versions out there.

I saw this in action at SEMA. It very cool, and tucks right under the truck when the door is closed. When the door is open, the step activates.

I think these guys make it, but like everything else on the ICON, I think it was modified to fit the ICON.

Kodiak makes folding steps too. Not cheap. Around $2-300 per side. Would have to be modified to work under a 40.

THanks for the link. It looks like I could go with a tail bed step for 50 bucks and modify it rather than going for a specific Jeep step to modify. It is cheaper.

Look again. The rebate is $50. With rebate it's $200.
For $200, I'll lock my hands and give her a boost up when she wants to ride. :D

Nice eyes! Heck No! Your right. Mayb eI could be really old school and I can get on my hands and knees and let her use my back as a step. I could fabricate something for half that price. Maybe one of those steps that spring up and flat when not in use. Anyone know what those are called? SOmetimes they are on the sids of big trucks. THey have an oval foot peg that fold flat when used and flips up when not used.

if she really wants to go for a ride in the 40, then she'll climb up there. she ain't 70 years old! ;p

that's kinda like my wife asking me to make her some doo-hickey so she can get on her horse easier. yeah, that'll happen.......not.

a buddy of mine has some steps similar to the ones above on his dually. they cost him almost $1200 by the time it was all said and done. ask me, for that price you could buy a step sttol along with a new set of 37"s and then some.

as far as the icon goes, the price tag is up there because the rigs are top notch, bar none.

I don't know Georg, I would rather spend that money for the top notch work that FC Fabrications does. Could you imagine what a person would have if you could throw even half that much money into a rig for someone f :censor: k I can only dream.

The :princess: is 5'3" and under 115lns. She has to hop to grab the top roll bar and has to do a weird pull-up to get her legs high enough to get in. She just isn’t strong enough to do it a lot and if she has to get in and out more than once, it gets old. I am trying to make it as user friendly as possible for her to get her a bit more interested in it. Her biggest complaint about not wanting to ride in it is getting in and out. If I can make that easier, maybe she will be riding in passenger seat instead of my dog.

My wife does not complain about getting into my FJ 40.5 rig.

She is 5'2" and the rig is wearing 39.5 Iroks.

Although it is not a DD.

she's also 51 year old, correct?! :princess:

my wife is 5'1" and she gets around fine, including getting onto horses and into vehicles.

however, i gotta give you props dan ( slickrock ) for trying to get your wife more interested in cruising in the 40 with you.

Thanks guys. The little things that she can give her opinions on helps and she sees how much I have done so our son enjoys himself (fold down rear seat, 3 point seat belt, car booster seat, full cage, and padding anywhere he can hit his head on) has really improved her attitude about the rig. SInce all he wants to do is ride in it so if she wants to go someplce (at least in town) she has to go in the 40.

She always thought about it as "that thing" in the garage. Now she calls it a Cruiser so progress is being made.

find a landrover discovery they have one under the rear bumpers, they are beef im sure with minor mods this will work.

maybe I will look into it and get lucky at a junk yard
