I am spending this weekend in the Conway / Lincoln area with the GF and the 80. We plan on doing the zip line adventure at Loon Mountain. Is the Bear Notch / Albany road paved? Are there any good rides for the 80? I have driven thru many times but never stayed the weekend and I am wondering if there are any other "must do's".
Thanks
J

Parts of it are dirt, nice views. Tripoli road from woodstock over to Waterville Valley is dirt but nothing difficult.

My GF and I were coming back from Mollidgewock SP and heading towards Portsmouth and decided to take the long way home. I looked at the Map and saw this rd. , Jefferson Notch Rd, which connects rt.2 (from the north) and 302(to the south). We came in from the rt. 2 side and followed Jefferson Notch rd. to a little dirt rd with a sign that said local traffic only. We followed it a little further and came to a gate (closed winter season) where there was a guy getting ready to hike with his dog. He said, " that the road is closed due to trees being down but he hiked the 9+ miles a week ago and he didn't see anything." Mentioned that they usually open it in late june early july. (we were there in mid-june) But the road looked really cool and it is def. on my list to check out when we head back up in Sept.

If you have a New Hampshire Atlas & Gazeteer it is on PG 48 J4. It looked narrow but definitely passable. On the map it looks like a fairly substantial road (based on the solid red line) but I assure you that coming from the rt. 2 side that it was a dirt road and very off the beaten path.

If you check it out please report back as I'm very interested in exploring it myself.

I drove that road sometime within the last year after the ice/wind storm. It's not a serious wheeling road but was kinda fun because of all the trees leaning over in the road.

thanks. I was looking at Jefferson Notch road. The GF applied for a job in Strong Maine so we were planning on taking 302 over to the lincoln area and finding our way over to rt2 for the ride home. Thanks and I will keep you posted on the roads.

Good deal.. if you could snap a pic or two that would be great...enjoy the weekend. That's a great area.

Thats a nice road, there are a few camping spots on it where you can stop for the night.
At the top is a big parking area for a trail up Mt Jefferson. A lot of wild trout in the stream
on the 302 side.

I am a little late on the update but here goes. We didn't find much. The Bartlett experimental forest has some nice dirt roads but they are pretty much car passable. Beautiful ride but not much for wheeling. Everything else is gated. Still a great weekend though. I wish I had more to update but I don't.

Bummer it's all gated.

I'm heading up there this weekend. Where's the entrance to the Bartlett experimental forest? Off 302? I might check that out...
