FYI, I already did a search and read the threads. They are all 3 years old at least.

Alright, does anyone use a Kaymar bumper or the rear tire carrier?

http://www.kaymar.com.au/vehicles/toyota/toyota_IFS Turbo Diesel and VX.php

They seem to have a version that puts a rear carrier on an OEM bumper, which appeals to me. They also have full rear bumper replacements. I found a post from an 80 guy who was saying the OEM tire carrier was built very strong. Does anyone have experience with the 100 version?

They don't appear to have a North America distributor, but I emailed them to see what the options are. I'll let everyone know when I hear back.

I know that on the 200, the tire carriers were around $4k shipped, IIRC.

$4k? I have to imagine that was for the full rear bumper system. I'm just looking for the standard carrier at the top of the page for the 100 series.

I read on the 80s forum that the prior distributor Outback Proven went out of business and a new distributor is being established.

There is a standard carrier for 100 series on eBay for $1000 AU$. Even with the conversion and if could ship to US, no thanks. I'd want to pay about $500 for a OEM style carrier, and only if I planned to run a bigger fuel cell.

AU has cool parts, US has cheap 100s.

I heard back from Kaymar, they said we can order directly from their warehouse. I requested a quote on the standard (OEM bumper) tire carrier, and the complete kit with tire carrier and jerry can holder. I also asked who the new distributor will be. I'll report back when I get actual numbers.

While I do not have numbers, I did find out that they do not have a new US distributor. So it looks like the only option for interested people will be to order directly, and pay the shipping ourselves.

I have a Kaymar bumper and, so far, a tire swingout. I like it, I think they look much better than the ARB, but thats personal preference. I want to get a second swingout, but I do not like their Jerry can holder though. I'm hoping to find a used one, from any series, just to use the same matching hardware, and customize it with a ladder, like the Slee's.

Kaymar is the best you can get in the market PERSONAL OPINION.

WiscoProud: if you get a quote please let us know.

Well, I have some good news and some bad news. I got the quotes from Kaymar. I have been in contact with one of their customer service reps, Jenny Jackson (Jenny@kaymar.com.au) who has been very helpful. For the rear tire carrier on an OEM bumper the cost is $720 USD, and the cost for the full blown dual carrier, full rear bumper is $2,250.

However, freight from Australia is $530, and that apparently just gets it to the wharf. It would seem we would either need to pick it up there or arrange for further shipping. Not to mention the 40 day wait while it moves across the ocean.

This just illustrates why stuff costs so much for our trucks. Most is made in Australia, and it costs a small fortune to ship it here. I can't justify the expense myself, but I think its good info for any of you looking for something different than the normal ARB and TJM crowd.

Thanks for looking that up; I was actually just thinking of contacting them this week to see if I could track down a price. For that price, I'll stay with my spare mounted on my roof rack.

I like the Slee rear bumper, but it looks like a heavy beast and I'm really trying to keep the weight down as much as I can.

$2780 for the dual carrier to the US + domestic freight isn't a terrible price. When I looked last year at the Kaymar bumper, I believe their US distributor was selling them for roughly $3600 plus shipping. It was a huge premium over the Slee and ARB bumpers. I ended up with the Slee. It probably helps that the dollar is pretty strong right now.
