Just wondering if there are any benefits to JDM fender mounted side view mirrors and for any that have any do they rattle so bad that makes it hard to see out of them? I have a set and contemplating mounting them on my BJ42 which shakes even worse than a gasser?

A couple of my friends have them on their trucks. They say they are good when towing, other wise a tree or bush catcher.

my rhd 1970 japan model have those mirrors, better view on the back and side, but i think there only good for city use.....even if you have to do some work on the engine bay they on the way -sometimes better remove it before tear it...and magnet for limbs on the trail

Well I have only used the fender mount mirrors as that what my truck came with. Shake is RPM dependent but yes- they shake. I have to bump up my idle to see out of the left one. The are great for seeing the rear wheels when backing up. Off road they get knocked out of alignment immediately- but I can't imagine that side mounted mirrors don't as well. They do catch limbs but they are sturdy and they are not going to get knocked off the truck or anything like that. The ones that you have are different that Eshu's. They do get in the way when working under the hood- but if you don't need to do that often then no big deal there. Stuff like replacing the pump diaphragm with the pump in place- then you basically have to take them off. Around town they are great- you do not even have to turn your head to see if there is someone next to you and in the winter if the side windows are fogged up you can still see.

Overall I think the cruiser looks cleaner without them- but that is subjective. Ironically I'm thinking of trying some side mount mirrors just for the heck of it. Do they shake?

Try them out then let us know what you think-

Have those fender mounted mirrors installed for my Bj45. Unfortunately they shake at idle, but once my rig is moving it stops. Have to agree with peteinjp, when trailing, once the mirror gets knock out of alignment, you have to go down and adjust the mirrors. But at least they look cool.

yes they do look cool...i've always loved the look...but...with anything sticking out like that they will find trees :)

would have loved them on the streets of Boston I can see how they would be better for city driving

I have a pair I have been saving... it's good to get this feedback. I think I may decide to not install them... unless I can come up with an easy on/off for them and for a pair of door mounted mirrors - to swap on/off for wheeling.

There are 2 real advantages for them and that is that you can see the rear wheels when going around tight spots. You can tell if your clearing something or if your going to hit it. The other related advantage is that you do not have to turn you head from the direction of travel in order to do so. If only they could fold down when going into branches and when working under the hood. I think the ones that Eshu has could be make to do that somehow.

i think I am going to refurbish ones I bought though mine did not come with and see how they do, maybe instead of bolts maybe studs coming from inside or down up or out so would be an easy take off and studs stay attached.

thanks all

anyone know where wide angle heads or convex heads can be purchased for these? and anyone swap the plastic bushings out with new or maybe brass? I dont have any heads for mine so I am looking for some new ones???

Quite a few years ago, I made a large order from CCOT and they included a set of the wide angle mirrors.

The heads from CCOT dont fit the ball socket on the JDM head is larger.

In Japan it's the law

When I was stationed in Japan all the car's/trucks were required to have them mounted on the fenders...thought it was silly at first but after being there for a while it really gives you a better picture without having to take your eyes off the road. That said, would be a PITA off-road...
