i might make it

You might drop something down those uncovered holes as well;)

When you bleed it,leave 3 or more glow plugs out and spin the engine over. You can bleed it and get oil pressure at the same time;)

i covered it up with the stock 3fe air cleaner.....you know....to keep the water out.

fired it up today and i like the sound of that little doohickey whining.

i have oil pressure, but my oil pressure guage hasn't shown anything yet. also, the exhaust is at a pretty tough angle and kind of concerns me. i'm taking it to an exhaust shop monday, but have there been other 1hdt's put in a 60 series before? curious as to what they did for exhaust routing.

I depends on which exhaust elbow you have on the turbo and what direction it points. For my 1HZ-T (which use HDT components) I ran the exhaust down under the frame just behind the front right spring pin, and then down the along the outside of the frame rail behind the rocker and dumping just before the right rear wheel well.

I have seen others run it over the frame rail cutting a hole through the front right inner fender and behind the front tire and down along the outside of the frame rail as well.

the exhaust elbow looks like it's angled out about 45 degrees which points it right at the framerail. my 1hz exhaust was routed under the oil pan to the passenger side and i'ld like to have this one do that also. are there other exhaust elbows to choose from? i have to have something done pretty quick, but if i could go back later with a different elbow and improve it i will.

Yeah, the elbows are different for the 70, 80 and 100 series. Sounds like you have the 80 series style. AAI can hook you up with a different one but probably not in your time frame. I went with the 100 series elbow which points straight downward.

i may take you up on that. i'll have to use what i have for now, but if i don't like the way it turns out i'll definitely want to try the 100 series elbow. good to know the options, thanks.

on another note.....i've been trying to figure out where to route the valve cover vent tube and i see alot of threads about catch cans. it seems that turbo'd engines need a catch can. the air cleaner i'm using came from a 60 series 2h(i think-not from 3fe) and has the dust collector mounted to the bottom of it. does anybody see any reason why i couldn't us this as an oil catch can? here's a link showing my air cleaner with the dust collector..

i got my exhaust done today and the jakeleg stripped out the studs on the manifold. i think the studs off the 1hz manifold will be the same, though. also, my starter is crapping out on me. so, tomorrow i have to replace the stripped studs, pull and have the starter rebuilt, charge the a/c and i have to work the first half of the day. plenty of time.

i did get to drive it, though and i must say i can't believe i went so long without a turbo.

seriously, how the hell do you bend all 6 rods?
i am still trying to picture this in my mind.
2 maybe, 6?? i would have bet good money it couldn't happen. good thing i am not a betting man.

note to self, make sure the snorkel is hooked up properly.

side note, that does not look deep at all, THIS is deep. (from the run this past weekend)

Im guessing the engine was doing 5000 and the flywheel/crank momentum kept the bending going;)

I believe it, in fact I have seen almost the exact same thing on a 1HZ that came in from AUS. They said it was being wheeled and they laid it on it side and the with the engine still running this is what happened. I kind of believe them, who could make up a story of how it happned but the fact is all 6 were bent much the same way the pictures look on here, go figure.

Cheers,

Michael

That would still need some water ingestion though ,unless the cyls got full of oil

when we hit the water we were not idling. every cylinder had water in it when we got it back to the shop.

the 62 did not make to overland expo. the exhaust shop could only fit a 2 inch pipe in there, so i'm going to make my own exhaust elbow to allow for at least 2.5 inch pipe and to keep it inside the frame rail.

Is that Romey? Did it keep running?
