I am working on modifying an antenna button into a winch button and will be posting pictures of progress as they occur --

The end goal is to have a back-lit functional button with winch IN/OUT symbols

If this is successful then other back-lit buttons are possible and if anyone wants more information on this project feel free to reach out.

Did this about 18 years ago on my 91 FJ80 with a Warn M12K.
Here's a crude drawing I did at the time, if it helps you.
Funny story, on my way into the city I went to raise the antenna and unspooled my winch on the Jersey Turnpike. That was the reason for the cut-off switch.

Did this a few years back for the switches on the newer dash. Much easier with a laser cutter. Expensive materials and tedious to put together though.

The components:

From left to right: Reverse engraving plastic ( clear core w/ black film on bottom surface), diffuser matt, dark green tint. Spray adhesive all three together, carefully aligning them.

I am going to be keeping this 'build' light and also not worrying about the wiring at the moment -- so no need to complicate it all.

I have more decals to work with so will have to see the quality of these results --

So I have an update for you all....I have made 2 different designs pictured below & the bottom button is available for anyone interested.

Please send me a message if you want decals, or for me to custom make a switch for you. I can custom make any design into your original 80 series button + keep back illumination.

IMHO OEM Toyota buttons are overbuilt & it is difficult to recommend or install any else.

I can sell you any decal you need to make this button but the learning curve is quite steep. I can also make one for you if you send a core.

Both switches have sold so there is none 'ready made' available at the moment.....

There are nuances to making a switch so I will have to talk with you in detail if you want to move ahead.
