I'll start by saying that I know there are multiple threads regarding speakers for 80 series LC's, but I have yet to find info on my particular speaker setup. As far as I can see, I have two speakers in the lower dash (knee area), two in the rear doors, and one in the very back right/passenger side panel. I don't have stock speakers in the front doors. I would prefer not to alter anything and I'd also prefer to keep everything original looking, I just want to replace the stock speakers with something that sounds better, as I think that the stock (almost 33 year old speakers), are trashed. I haven't pulled the original speakers out yet, but it appears that the two in the rear doors have a 4.5" diameter grille, and the one in the rear has a 5" grille. Like I said, I haven't attempted to pull the speaker out yet, so I don't know the exact size of the speakers in the dash, but the grilles are rectangular and approx. 4.5"x4". So again, as far as I can tell, this is a 5 speaker sound system and I'm looking for recommendations to replace/upgrade all these speakers without any (or vary minimal), modifications. Any suggestions/recommendations?

Was this 80 imported?

Yes, imported from Texas to Alaska.😁 Here’s a few pictures of what I need to replace.

Does it have a rear heater?

Obviously you have sonewhat of an oddball FJ80. I've only seen front door speakers omitted on imports and true poverty packs. But you've got sliding cargo windows.
Sorry I can't help with your quest. I'm pretty sure those 4" lower dash speakers are basically impossible to replace w/o going custom high end.

I would suggest pulling one of the front door panels and checking for a speaker cutout and wiring. I only suggest this because the cloth inserts on your door panels, to me, do not look like the factory pattern. I may be wrong but someone in the past may have redone the doors and just omitted the front speakers.

As stated the dash speakers are an odd size but I have seen a couple write ups in the past that spoke about some 4" fitting well in the factory mounts. Dash & Rear Door Speaker Install (Perfect fitting after-market Pioneer Speakers) - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/dash-rear-door-speaker-install-perfect-fitting-after-market-pioneer-speakers.1127068/.

The rear doors aren't as bad but if you intend to use your factory speaker grills that is where some creativity come into the picture. Here are a couple links to write ups to retain the factory grills. Fitment of Pioneer TS-G series speakers behind OEM grills - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/fitment-of-pioneer-ts-g-series-speakers-behind-oem-grills.895356/page-5 and 4 Speaker Installation - Factory Grills - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/4-speaker-installation-factory-grills.578428/

The rear speaker is for the factory sub which is pretty underwhelming. I found a woofer (not a subwoofer) from Skar that fit the mount and required no modification of the panel/cover. Here is a link to the information, starts on post#60. Subwoofer Options... - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/subwoofer-options.952649/page-3

Great, and thank you for all the information! I don't think anybody did anything with the front door panels (or any of the interior for that matter), because they perfectly match all the other door panels. The vehicle had about 120k miles on it when I bought it 3 years ago, and the interior/body is in pretty much mint condition, aside from a very small tear in the drivers seat and the normal clearcoat issues, also there were zero modifications done at that time.

Obviously you have somewhat of an oddball FJ80.
I'll disagree with that. Both my 91 and my 92 are exactly like he's describing. Pretty sure the 5-speaker setup was standard for those years.

And again; I disagree. His look exactly like both of mine.

You can disagree, but here's a sample size of a few dozen FJ80, and nearly all of the stock, non imports have front door speakers.

I thought It was kind of funny, the first one I clicked on (just because it had the same color configuration as mine), didn't have front door speakers.

Ok, so I like to admit when I'm wrong: I drove my 92 this morning, looked down, and realized holy chit, I do have front door speakers.

I'll double check the 91.
