One more thing.... SanDiegoCruiser.... you are going to have to strip and repaint those stock chrome rims. I did mine the graphite and it looks great! But, I may go black next time I do them. I think Black looks better on rigs our color (we have the same color).....
Any links or advince on how to strip the stock chrome rims? Seems like alot of work! Did you powder coat them? If height was no issue, I would rather look into a lift and putting real tires on the 18'' rims.. Oh well...

Anyone interested in the 18' tires & rims? Probably the wrong audience here for them, lol. I'm sure they will move on Craig's list or EBay. They are 2 months old (both the tires and rims). Probably want $1200 or so for all 4 to fund 5 new purchase of tires....

I did the duplicolor wheel paint. Start with this thread at post 16. It is a really easy job. You are welcome to come over and look at my wheels if you want to see how it comes out. Cost about $40. And takes less than a day to do all 5 if you take your time. I would let them sit for a good week or two if you are able before putting them back on the hundy if you can so the paint cures really good.

As far as 18's... If you really want 18's, Grab up these: 2010 Tundra Wheels with lug nuts & center caps

Paint em. Post up both sets of wheels and tires you have or switch over your current tires and/or pay a tire shop to do it for you. Selling If I can find a set of these 18's without tires I will grab a set. I dont feel like dealing with getting rid of the old tires.... If you seel both sets you currently have you will still probably break even or make some cash.

one thing to think about with 18's... they cost more and have less options than the factory 16's... In case you didnt know and it matters to you. I still want to switch to 18's.

Painting the rims is easy. I picked up a set of 03-07 LC 18s, rattle canned them over the course of a few days and slapped on some 295/70/18s. Here, you can use mine as inspiration:

yep... similar to how mine looks with less stink bug and more RAD!!! Just kidding Pfran I think that was one of the pics that convinced me to do mine....

I appreciate the info. I need to stay away from 18'' rims due to my height constraints. I'll take a look at striping my 16' rims and painting them. Thanks for the link to the tread.

Wow, love that look of the black wheels. You have inspired me!

Like Pfran said, it is super easy to do. I used the spray cans of Tail-Strip you can pick up at Kragen-O'reily. Stuff is amazing at stripping anything. Just wear gloves, long sleaves, pants, and eye protection/face shield. Stuff burns on skin contact...

Heat the wood trim and peel off. GooGone the rest of the residue and your on your way. A few years ago when I did mine I was not happy with the flat black OEM peice. I sanded it and sprayed it gloss black and looked good. Now it's sort of half gloss half matte.

Painting the wheels any dark color drastically changes the truck, even if you have done no mods it really makes it look aggressive. Throw some 295's and spray the rims, you'll never regret it and always look back when you walk away

Oh yeah, Welcome :flipoff2:

I used a wire wheel at the end of drill and some sandpaper to rough mine up before painting. But with chrome, will that tail-strip even work? I've never dealt with chrome wheels before so i'm not sure if either method would work.

Since the wheels are off the truck without tires, I would just spend the extra money and take them to a shop to have them sandblasted and powdercoated. Bunch of shops in east county San diego will do it for $30-50 a wheel.

I was thinking about having the wheels powder coated. I'll have to look into that. Any shops in mind?

Can't think of any of the top of my head, but I do remember calling a few of them in Santee, Lakeside, El Cajon area for price quotes. Found them all by google search.

My problem was I already had my tires mounted and attached to my truck, and most shops wanted ONLY the wheels, so it was too much trouble for me at the time to dismount the tires and figure a way to transport them to the shop.

darn
this picture makes me regret getting the 285's :crybaby:

truck looks great!!!

Any primer needed for that, or just clean, sand and paint? Did you take your tires off to do it?

The can didn't mention using any primer, so I just roughed up the factory paint , degreased, and then painted. I masked my tires off with tape. Not bad for a half-assed job. You need atleast 3 cans to do five wheels.
