I have RCV drive flanges, and they allow for more dowels etc, But they are round and 80 series are not. Is there another toyota hb assembly that will work on an 80 series? I know several guys have drilled and re tapped for ARP flanged bolts. But it there a hub with more stell than at least the 97 FZJ80 has? See what Im saying here? The 80 isnt round, seem like a beefier hub could be fitted.

Kurt @cruiseroutfit was just posting a bunch of info about this recently in another thread and other hubs.

did you end up going that route? anyone have a picture of these on their truck?
Several guys have them. They look nice, but I'm not sure they're worth the cost vs the other upgraded drive flanges sold by RCV, RuffStuff, etc

105, substantially bigger than 80-series. Direct bolt on but changes to five lug.

76/78/79-series is also five lug with the larger studs and dowels. I have confirmed 75-series FF rear hubs bolt on but have not figured out yet if 76/78/79 bolt on or if 105 rear FF (which is rare) bolt on as well.

Cheers

Sorry I don't know much about this, but are the hubs and bearings larger as well?

Nah it’s just the studs, dowels and lug studs that are larger but they are a fair share larger.

Cheers

Just a note on the diamond flanges and only mentioning because I missed the note when I first installed them. They use the inner groove of the axle shaft for the C-Clip, the axle needs to be trimmed 8mm for the cap to fit on, or a spacer and longer bolts added.

I have installed HZJ79 hubs on an 80/81 and they fit.
The key to our vehicles is the spindle!
Spindle part numbers may vary but this is normally minor as it's fairly simple to cross reference applications.

Rear or fronts?

Fronts work.
Bet the rears fit, you'll just need to swap out to 5 lug rims.

@SNLC In the process of doing this conversion. Lots of little differences, DM if you have any questions.

Just curious, could the 5-lug'ers be larger as a result of just being 5 lug instead of 6? Ya know, stress equilibrium or something?

Well Toyota upgrades both the 70-series and 100-series to five lug and larger hub studs/dowls in 1999.

I have no idea why they did it but I will guess because there were to many failures with the smaller studs. Easiest and most cost effective to upgrade the parts they find are failing vs a complete redesign.

Wheel studs went from 12mm to 14mm.
Hub studs went from 8mm to 10mm
Dowels went from 6mm to 8mm.
Cone washers are proportionally bigger

The hub and flanges have a larger diameter.
The PCD for hub studs is a larger diameter.
