This is what I saw yesterday. Owner said everything from door pillar to rear had been replaced. Has the 6 under the hood. Came from one of the Dakotas. The fiberglass still needs a little work and everything just needs to be put back together. Put in another gas tank and removed old one. Has power steering and he is putting in A/C. No winch just the rollers, said winch wasn't working. Didn't ask price, but I can get you his number if this looks interesting.

No but I am a firm believer in their ideology and I support their cause. Truth is I don't get to ride much anymore. It seems like it has to be a special occasion for me to get out and ride. With two grade schoolers, scouts, karate and such I just don't have the time I used to. I've had a motorcycle since the age of six and I'm 44 now. There will always be at least one bike in my garage. Right now there's four and if I had my way I'd have a few more.

I have been a part of them since 05. Great group of people just like here.

I am going to look at another one tomorrow. If it ends up to be a bust ( like all the others so far) I will definitely try to check this one out. $10k is a tad over my budget though.

You posted in another thread that you are going to pick one up...
What did you get? Where are any pictures?

No kidding. Spill the beans. Where is it located ? Also make sure to bolt it down good. I have seen them fly myself. Was it for sale by a Mud member ?

Okay guys...another forum member, vehiculousFJ, very graciously put me on this one. He posted a heads-up in the Upsate SC Classifieds and I got the owner's digits from him. Pics are posted in Tech under "Picking up on Sunday". It's not my dream 'Cruiser but it has a lot going for it and the price was right. Looks like the long journey is just beginning. I can't thank y'all enough for your help. I'll be leaning hard on you for more info and sugestions as the days go on. Go take a look-see in Tech and let me know what you think. I have a feeling you'll be seeing a lot more of this old Forty in the future. No huge plans for it just yet. We'll get the nit-picky stuff straightened out and get it road worthy and take it from there.

What auction has 40s?

What auction has 40s?

A friend called and told me of a court ordered auction in VA (messy divorce). The husband's "collection" was auctioned off. Only one "good" 40 and it went for $14k. A rust bucket with lots of rust and full of mouse urine and feces sold for $3.1k. It was ridiculous. We cut our losses and left.

I'm beginning to think this Forty is a FST model. Telltale signs so far: 1. Tailgate with footman loops 2. Extra light on dash 3. Threaded holes on either side of dash for safety rings (rings are missing though). I'll look into it more when I get it home.

Nice find!

Just posted up some more pics of my recent score in Tech. Check 'em out if you want to see more. Anybody in the Charlotte area that has good knowledge of Fortys is more than welcome to come take a look at this thing and give me some pointers. It has electrical issues. No lights except for brake lights. I cleaned the fuse box terminals and replaced the burned fuses. Still nothing. PM me if you've got time to look it over. I'm in Weddington.

Start looking for rusted grounding points, that might solve some of your problems...

Got to agree with Brian. Always start with grounds on these old trucks then go from there . Grounds / fuses / bulbs / then chasing the wiring with a dummy light.

Do yourself a favor and go buy a multimeter. Anything with "burnt" wiring or other electrical, please find the issue and replace anything that is damaged before just putting it back together. I'd hate to see that thing burn to the ground, especially if it was parked in your garage. It's a pretty simple check at the fuse panel and light connectors to check for ground and voltage. Charred electrical really scares me after working my last job, where I saw several vehicle fires with a similar origin.

There is a 40 in Columbia for sale by owner right near five points... pm me if you want the # I called... he wants 13k
